Gorgeous actress Cameron Diaz has often rebelled against critics saying that she was typecast for comedy roles. It’s not known whether this had anything to do with her decision of doing the thriller “The Box” but what is certain is that, in a strange turn of events, her ambitious role, along with the movie, have been ranked lowest by moviegoers, as Star Magazine informs.

What’s even worse than having the thriller named among the worst movies ever made is the fact that it happened only days after the release, which means even before the flick hit cinema screens internationally. Of course, critics warned of its poor quality ever since before nationwide release, but to have fans nonetheless say that the film is bad is an unexpected hit below the belt, industry insiders say.

“Cameron Diaz’s new film ‘The Box’ has been voted one of the worst films of all time by moviegoers – just days after its US release. The thriller, based on Richard Matheson’ 1970 short story ‘Button, Button,’ has been panned by film buffs in America, with officials at CinemaScore, who monitor fan reaction to movies, giving the flop an F rating - the lowest score possible,” Star writes.

As if an F score was not bad enough, it seems that people also felt the need to get all vocal about how lame the film actually was. “Company boss Ed Mintz says, ‘People really thought this was a stinker.’ Mintz rates the film as the fourth least popular this decade, behind 2006 horror ‘Bug,’ ‘Wolf Creek’ in ‘2005’ and Darkness, which came out in 2002,” Star further says.

Director Richard Kelly also handled the screenplay of “The Box,” based on Richard Matheson’s short story. The film deals with a young couple who wake one morning to find a box on their doorstep. By opening it, they know they will come into the possession of $1 million, while a stranger will die, says the synopsis of the film on IMDB. “The Box” opened nationwide in the US on November 6, and will end its run in Greece and Finland on January 7 and 15, respectively.
