The actress says people should follow their instincts

Clearly, Cameron Diaz is trying to destroy the very fiber of our modern society by taking apart things that people have been taking for granted for centuries, like monogamy. The 41-year-old actress has recently given an interview to InStyle Magazine, in which she claimed that monogamy is not something inherent, but something we learn.

“I don’t know if anyone is really naturally monogamous,” the actress tells the magazine, with a reflection at her own love life which hasn't been short on adventures, disappointments and great romances as well.

“We all have the same instincts as animals. But we live in a society where it’s been ingrained in us to do these things,” Diaz continues, hinting that she doesn't necessarily agree with the “one person for each” policy we currently have instated in the world today.

“A lot of people chase after it because they’ve been told ‘This equals happiness,’” she explains, before adding, “They chase it, they get it, and then they find out, ‘Why did I think this was going to make me happy? I’m miserable.”

In her mind, people should be giving into their instincts and flirting more openly outside their stable relationship because, let's face it, it's not in our nature to be tied down. It may be cool to shack up with new people every day in Hollywood-world, but in the real world, some just need that stability offered by a monogamous relationship.

Cameron doesn't give out any example from her own love life, something which people are very curious to find out, but she does mention that she's thankful for all the experiences she's had along the years.

She goes on to explain that “I’m 41 years old – I’ve been through everything, OK? I’m grateful for all of it – whether it was quick and passing or something that lingered too long.”

And, in her 41 years, she's not shied away from long-term relationships, so far being linked with some of the famous names in Hollywood, like Justin Timberlake or Jared Leto, but somehow, oddly, none of the them worked out.

It may or may not have something to do with the fact that Cameron has a loose view on what a commitment should be like. In a previous interview she is quoted as saying, “I’m like, ‘Relax. It’s OK if you did.’ Everybody gets cheated on.”

Finally, the actress from “The Other Woman,” her latest romantic comedy, has a positive outlook on her future and her life in general, “There is not one thing I’ve been through that hasn’t been a lesson that led me to this moment, and I can’t believe how great life keeps getting.”
