Anyone interested in mobile phones will surely know that Sony Ericsson has two successful product lines, targeting all of the young mobile phone users, their Walkman family of music phones and the Cybershot-branded camera phones.

Before introducing these two phone families, Sony Ericsson wasn't that appreciated as a manufacturer. The company has now managed to grab on to the fourth position in the industry, right after Samsung, and is aiming to climb up to number three.

Although slightly more expensive than your usual phones, Sony Ericsson handsets like the K800i, featuring a high-res camera, have managed to record a great success.

The company is also trying to expand its line of cheap phones and has announced a partnership with Sagem. According to Chief Executive Officer, Miles Flint, releasing cheaper phones will not hurt profitability. Sony Ericsson will attempt to manufacture and release phones that include Walkman music players and better features, but come with a lower price tag, being more accessible to a wider range of customers.

"We have announced a number of exciting new products during the quarter, many of which are already shipping and have been well received by consumers,"' Flint said in the statement.

According to a recent announcement, Sony Ericsson has more than doubled its profits mainly due to the increasing popularity of its camera phones and music handsets. Net income jumped to 254 million Euros from 109 million Euros recorded in the previous year while sales rose 47 percent. Moreover, as many as 21.8 million mobile phones were sold in that quarter.
