And they sound good too

Creative Technology's subsidiary Cambridge SoundWorks has just announced that they will mass produce a new Ipod compatible docking system called PlayDock i. The sound system is somewhat similar to PlayDock Zen which is aimed at the Zen Users. It seems that even if Cambridge belongs to Creative, they don't intent to produce only Creative compatible devices. As a reminder, first PlayDock systems featured both ZEN and Ipod compatibility, but it seems that the company has decided to split the line in two separate interfaces, one for the ZEN players and the other compatible only with the Ipods.

The PlayDock i features the same Cambridge high-performance drivers an integrated powered subwoofer, the iPod dock (it comes with a built in charger for the player) and a video-out connector combo that can be used for photos and videos viewing. The system can run on AC or battery power. We don't actually know if it uses the same 4" 15W subwoofer that was present in the old line but it sounds pretty good for an integrated 2.1 small system.

The magnetically shielded enclosure also comes with a remote control and has a built-in line-in connector and headphone jack. Cambridge's website claims that the new PlayDock i can support 4G and 5G iPods but also the iPod mini and iPod nano series. At the moment, the website says that the PlayDock i is "coming soon". On the other hand, several voices say that the final product will be available in January with a price tag of $200. And since at about the same price the ZEN variant was a success, I see no reason for this one not to sell as well as its brother.
