There's no news when the final version will be released

A Calligra developer wrote an interesting post on his blog informing users about the progress made on porting the KDE's number one office suite to the next-generation KDE Frameworks 5 and Qt 5 technologies that are being used in the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment.

The port of the upcoming Calligra 3.0 office suite to the technologies mentioned above started back in March when Calligra 2.9.0 was released. Therefore, Calligra 3.0 will be the first ever version of the acclaimed project based on Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5.

However, while Calligra developers will be working hard to port the office suite to KDE Frameworks 5 and Qt 5, no new features will be added to any of the included components. They will concentrate their work on making the port as perfect as possible.

The ports of Stage, Words, and Sheets components are working well

While some issues with the Oxygen icon theme are still present, the Calligra developer reports that the Stage, Words, and Sheets components have been successfully tested under Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5. You can see them in action in the gallery below.

He also confirmed that some other components are working nicely, such as the Calligra ODT (Open Document Format) plugin for the Okular document viewer and the Calligra DOC import filter, which combined make the Okular app to display a DOC sample file.

There's no news when Calligra 3.0 will be available to users worldwide

Unfortunately, there's no exact date when the Calligra 3.0 office suite will be officially released. The developers are hopeful that the port will be completed before the end of the year.

"No idea when Calligra 3.0 is good to be released. It’s done when it is done. We will work hard to make it done this year. In Q2 would be nice. In Q3 might be more realistic. Now, join the fun," says the Calligra developer.
