Jarosław Staniek had the pleasure of announcing on the Calligra website that version 2.9.0 of the acclaimed office suite for KDE-based desktop environments is now available for download, a release that includes the biggest version of the Krita digital painting software, as well as updated version of the Kexi visual data-oriented apps builder.

As expected, Calligra 2.9.0 integrates the recently released Krita 2.9.0 award-winning digital painting app, which is the biggest ever release including a wide range of new features, as reported by Softpedia on a separate article. Calligra 2.9 also see the debut of Calligra Gemini, a combination between a touch-friendly tablet application and a traditional desktop app, which incorporates presentation and word processor apps.

“We are happy to announce the release of final version 2.9 of the Calligra Suite, Calligra Active and the Calligra Office Engine. This version is the result of thousands of changes which provide new features, polishing of the user experience and bug fixes,” said Jarosław Staniek in the official release announcement.

Also part of the Calligra 2.9.0 office suite, the Kexi application that allows users to build visual data-oriented apps received over 150 improvements, among which we can mention the injection of newer technologies in the tabular (data grid) forms and views, numerous improvements to the Query Designer, Data Import, and Report Designer components, as well as integration with KDE Plasma 5.

Last but not least, Calligra is now capable of displaying office documents in the Okular image viewer app of the KDE desktop environment, and numerous general improvements were integrated into the core components of Calligra, including Calligra Sheets and Words.
