Activision's Call of Duty franchise is nothing short of hugely successful, as even though it flew below the radar for the first few installments, the fourth edition, subtitled Modern Warfare, threw it on the map and made it one of the company's biggest money-making series of all time.

Now, as the newest installment, Call of Duty World at War, is still going strong, after it was launched in November last year, the studio that made it, Treyarch, has just announced that a third downloadable map pack will be released in August.

After both Map Pack 1 and 2 went right past the staggering 2 million downloads mark, now Map Pack 3, maintaining the same basic premise of three new multiplayer maps and a new scenario for the Nazi Zombie cooperative mode, is certain to manage that same feat once more.

Here are some of the first details about the new maps contained in Map Pack 3, straight from Treyarch: “Fight for ocean territory in "Battery," an armored island surrounded by anti-ship mines and shore to ship cannons. Watch out for sniper fire as you defend Russia's most coveted resource in "Revolution," and keep a sharp eye out through the dense, overcast city streets in "Breach," set at Berlin's historic Brandenburg Gate. Zombies return in all their undead glory with "Der Riese" (Zombie Factory), a Nazi research facility featuring the weapon upgrading Pack A Punch Machine. Use the teleporters to escape in an instant and fight to the death in pursuit of the map's 10 new Achievements/Trophies.”

Seeing just how successful the game has become and how popular its multiplayer mode is, this new DLC map pack will certainly make a lot of players buy it and get straight into the chaotic action that fills the game. More details will arrive as August approaches and we'll be certain to keep you informed.
