Recent rumors that work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is already underway have been shot down by their actual source, Billy Murray, the voice actor behind the franchise’s Captain Price, who revealed that he’s now reprising his role only for the Call of Duty Online shooter that’s being designed for China.
Activision and its Treyarch studio are getting ready to debut Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
later this month, after the Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games studios released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 last year.
Recently, however, rumors about a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 have started floating around on the web, as Billy Murray, the voice actor behind the franchise’s Captain Price character, apparently confirmed that he’s now doing work for a new game in the series.
Infinity Ward quickly denied this report and now Murray himself corrected his supposed statements, saying that he is working on a new Call of Duty, but it’s not Modern Warfare 4, as he is contributing to the multiplayer-only version of the game that will be exclusive to China.
“This article is not accurate,” Murray said on his Twitter
account about the recent Modern Warfare 4 report. “I told the guy I was doing a special new Modern Warfare for China, not MW4.”
The whole Modern Warfare 4 report appeared, according to Murray, because the person he talked with on a plane got confused about the Call of Duty game on which he was working.
“The guy I spoke to on the plane was very nice and I'm really pleased he loves the game but the facts have got a bit confused somewhere,” he added.
What’s more, the voice actor also revealed that his supposed meeting with Infinity Ward representatives on Monday couldn’t have happened, as he was on another plane to London.
“Also I couldn't have said I was meeting them Monday as I was on a Monday evening flight to London! Sorry for the confusion!”
Even so, you can bet that Activision is preparing a new Call of Duty game for 2013, probably Modern Warfare 4.
