Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's launch was quite successful, as we learned from Activision 24 hours after its release that more than 6.5 million copies were sold, but now, after the figures from the first 5 days of availability have been crunched, it seems that the game made over $775 Million (574 million Euros), smashing sales records for both movies or books as well as other video games.

Modern Warfare 3 was pretty much certain to break sales records this year, continuing the stellar streak set by Modern Warfare 2 a couple of years ago and Black Ops back in 2010.

Still, now that the final figures are in, the results are even more staggering, as Modern Warfare 3's launch made Activision around $775 million in sales, a hefty jump from Black Ops' $650 million, or Modern Warfare 2's $550 million.

"Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for three consecutive years across all forms of entertainment," said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. "Life-to-date retail sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded $6 billion worldwide, which makes Call of Duty one of the most valuable entertainment properties in the world."

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg echoed Kotick's feelings, saying that, "Most of all, I want to thank our fans. They are our toughest critics, and our biggest supporters, and none of this would be possible without them."

The company added some other shocking statistics, as before the 24 hours of availability ended, more than 7 million multiplayer hours were already logged into Modern Warfare 3, an increase of 19 percent over the 5.9 million enjoyed by Black Ops last year.

On November 8, when Modern Warfare 3 was released, more than 3.3 million unique gamers played it, another big jump over Black Ops, which enjoyed 2.6 million players on its launch day back in 2010.

Expect more records to be smashed soon enough, as 10 days have barely passed since Modern Warfare 3 was released, and the winter holiday season hasn't even started.
