Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that it will be launching two new maps today, for those who are playing the Xbox 360 home console version of its first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The two maps are called Sanctuary and Foundation and will give those who are engaged in the multiplayer component of the game in the long term more options when it comes to their matches.

The maps are first offered to those who are paying for an Xbox Live subscription and for the Elite service, which is linked to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Soon afterwards, those who are subscribing on the PlayStation 3 and on the PC will also get access to the same maps.

They will also be included in a content collection drop that will be delivered later during the year.

Activision is launching content for Modern Warfare 3 constantly in order to make sure that they keep the player base interested in the long term and fans are expecting more maps, weapons and even game modes to be delivered well into 2012.

The first-person shooter has managed to become the best-selling title of 2012 and Activision is keen to extract as much revenue as possible from the current player base.

At the moment a new Call of Duty title is being prepared for an autumn launch by Activision Blizzard, with Treyarch expected to handle the development duties.

Fans are expecting to see a new take on the Black Ops concept and an evolved multiplayer mode on all platforms.

Activision will also launch a new version of the new Elite multiplayer service, probably offering new gamers more options when it comes to linking up with friends and more chances to compare their own performance with their peers.
