A brand new report brings fresh details on the next Call of Duty game that will appear later this year in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, including information about gameplay and story.

Activision declined to release any sort of official details on its next Call of Duty game at the beginning of the week, when it held its investors call for the first quarter of 2011, saying only that the official reveal is set to appear "soon," perhaps at next month's E3 conference.

Until then, Kotaku has gotten a hand on the first actual details about the next shooter, which will, in fact, be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as rumored earlier this year.

The website cites sources that have seen the game in action, and confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 will take the blockbuster moments from the first two games in the Call of Duty spinoff series and amplify the scope and the scale of the missions.

Modern Warfare 3 is coming from Infinity Ward, the studio behind the whole Call of Duty franchise, but is also helped by other internal Activision studios, perhaps Sledgehammer Games or Raven Software, as was rumored earlier this year.

The actual game will continue the Modern Warfare alternate reality story, which sees Russian forces invade the USA and delivers a world in crisis scenario, in which players must complete various missions.

Characters like John "Soap" MacTavish or Captain John Price are returning from previous games, while the appearance of Ghost, a fan favorite from the second Modern Warfare hasn't been confirmed.

The website claims that large, urban warfare will play a big part of the gameplay in Modern Warfare 3, as will destructible environments, meaning that Call of Duty is set to borrow many of the trademark features of its biggest rival, the Battlefield series, which sees the release of Battlefield 3 right around the same time frame speculated for Modern Warfare 3: the beginning of November.

No other details are rumored, but expect more information as we approach the start of the E3 expo next month.
