The new security patch for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the PlayStation 3 has just been released by Infinity Ward through the PlayStation Network online service.

The recent hacking scandals on the PlayStation 3 have put a serious dent in the security of many games, especially their online modes, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Now, the game's developer, Infinity Ward, has just announced that a security update for the title has been deployed onto the PlayStation 3, and will also arrive at a later time on the PC and Xbox 360 platforms.

The new patch will "address security issues that have affected online play," according to Infinity Ward's creative strategist Robert Bowling.

"In addition to the security updates, this patch will also address a small geo exploit on the map Fuel, which players exploited in order to get inside a rock on the outskirts of the map," he added.

The update is being deployed onto the PlayStation Network today, and will go live depending on where you actually live.

It will be downloaded automatically by the game once you start it up and have your PlayStation 3 connected to the Internet.

The patch has been a long time coming, largely because Infinity Ward waited on Sony to address the security issues which enabled hackers to compromise the Japanese console.

Sony released a mandatory firmware update, taking the software to 3.56, but hacking is still extremely common during online matches of Modern Warfare 2.

The patch was completed by Infinity Ward a few weeks ago, but it endured a rigorous testing and approval stage, in order to make sure that all of the exploits were eliminated.

The newest Call of Duty game, Black Ops, already had special security measures implemented in its PlayStation 3 edition, and those were activated by its developer, Treyarch, once the hacking scandal began and cheaters started disrupting the multiplayer mode of the game.
