Sledgehammer Games, the co-developer of 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has confirmed that it isn't working on the recently confirmed Call of Duty: Ghosts, as it's a pure Infinity Ward project.

Sledgehammer Games was formed a few years ago by Activision to work specifically on the Call of Duty franchise and, at some point, it had a futuristic version of the shooter in the works. Due to Infinity Ward's major departures in 2011, the studio had to work alongside the developer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Now, after the announcement of Call of Duty: Ghosts, which is developed only by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer has posted a statement on Twitter congratulating its fellow developer and confirming that its own team is working hard on its next project.

No other details were given but it's likely that Sledgehammer may have started working once more on its own futuristic first-person shooter in the franchise.
