The huge patch has just a single major solution to a game problem

Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PS4 has just received a massive update weighing in at 1.75GB that fixes just one actual crash scenario that happened when players started the game and they were already downloading the Onslaught DLC.

Call of Duty: Ghosts appeared back in November for many platforms, from the PC, to the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U. Unfortunately for owners of the new first-person shooter, the title was affected by quite a few problems.

Fortunately, the game's developer, Infinity Ward, has released quite a few updates across all the aforementioned platforms in order to eliminate problems and just make the shooter much more stable both in the single-player campaign and in the multiplayer one.

The latest update has just gone live for the PlayStation 4 platform, in the form of a pretty massive 1.75GB patch.

According to the official forum, despite the huge size of the update, just one thing is fixed by it, which is an issue that caused a crash while downloading the Onslaught DLC.

"Fixed a crash that could occur at the start screen, if you started downloading Onslaught before launching the game," the update's changelog said.

Activision's Assist team on Reddit mentioned that there were no other details about the patch's contents from Infinity Ward, so not even they have an idea about the big size.

"I know the notes released today were a bit small, we're sorry to say we wouldn't have the full details as to why a patch focused on stability was so large," the Activision rep said. "All patches, and patch notes are released by the studio, Infinity Ward. We apologize you've had to download so many files lately, multiplayer on Ghosts is one of the most popular features in the game, the development studio releases updates to help improve its performance."

Activision has also highlighted that, given the quality of the assets in the PS4 or Xbox One, such new things may have also inflated the file size of the brand new Call of Duty: Ghosts update.

"File size varies by platform, PS4 and Xbox One will typically be larger than its predecessors since their hardware differs from the previous generation platforms. Newer consoles are able to handle more, be it improved graphics, or even support for Ground war, so when patches/games are released for these newer platforms more data is required."

Sony Online Entertainment mentioned in the past that it was working with the PlayStation division to deliver a smoother update system that shouldn't result in big patches.

The new Call of Duty: Ghosts update is already live and available for download on the PlayStation Network.
