Infinity Ward is set to release the Devastation add-on for Call of Duty: Ghosts later today, April 3, and it's decided to share quite a lot more details and tips concerning Mayday, the second scenario in the Extinction cooperative mode, which is included in the DLC.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launched last November and developer Infinity Ward already rolled out quite a lot of different content packs, including new multiplayer skins and items, but also a full-fledged map pack called Onslaught.

Now, the second proper add-on is set to debut today, April 3, in the form of Devastation, which includes four new maps but also a fresh scenario for the Extinction cooperative mode called Mayday.

In order to give co-op fans an edge in the new experience, Infinity Ward has posted a nifty little guide on its website presenting the major additions to the Extinction mode.

First up, there's a brand new Cryptid alien in the form of the Seeder, which fire deadly gas projectiles besides producing pods that transform into plant-like turrets, so expect to deal with incoming attacks from many different areas once a Seeder takes to the field.

The developer recommends a great synergy between a Weapon Specialist character and a Medic, so that your team isn't taken by surprise by a Seeder.

In order to make taking down the more powerful aliens easier, a special crafting system is added to Extinction, which allows players to customize their gear in different directions.

"If you got your hands on the powerful and mysterious Venom-X weapon in Nightfall, you’re definitely going to want to pick it up in Mayday. Episode 2 introduces crafting, allowing players to customize the Venom-X in one of four possible variations. Each variation offers a different means of eradicating Cryptids, which is definitely going to come in handy during difficult encounters," the studio said.

Mayday is a much bigger level than previous Extinction scenarios and Infinity Ward took great care to add plenty of side paths filled with goodies like lockers, weapons, attachments, or bonus cash.

"For an effective start, don’t forget to vary your loadouts, especially when it comes to the different available classes. A varied team gets the most out of available traps (Engineer), high-damage focus fire (Weapon Specialist), team healing (Medic) and a meat shield when the swarms start closing in (Tank)," the developer added.

"Communicate when drilling hives and always, always do your best to complete Challenges. Those extra skill points can mean the difference between success and failure in the later parts of the level."

Mayday is included in the Devastation DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which goes live later today for the game on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 platforms.
