Activision denies scrapping the PC version of Call of Duty Elite

After some early statements about Call of Duty Elite and whether or not the online service would even come out for the PC, Activision has cleared things up and confirmed that Elite will still be deployed for PC players of its Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Activision's Call of Duty series set a new world sales record with the launch of Modern Warfare 3 earlier this month but the Elite online service, which was supposed to complement the game's multiplayer mode, hasn't really had such a stellar debut, as the massive influx of users crippled the company's servers.

Now, just as the Beachhead studio in charge of Elite is trying to get the service fully operational on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, a statement appeared on the official Elite Twitter page, which seemed to hint that it might not even appear for the PC.

"We are working towards a universal Elite experience but we cannot guarantee if or when a version will be available for the PC," the message said.

Fortunately for Modern Warfare 3 PC owners, the studio quickly posted a new message that said the PC version of Call of Duty Elite is still coming, so it's just a matter of when, not if.

“We misspoke. Our goal has always been to provide a free PC offering for Elite. Stay tuned for an update as timing is still being determined.”

Activision already let down PC owners before the release of Modern Warfare 3, when it confirmed that the PC version of Elite will be delayed to allow the Beachhead studio to focus on the service's console editions.

Still, considering there are still plenty of things going wrong on the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of Elite, it seems that Call of Duty Elite still has to wait until it reaches the PC.
