Activision has confirmed that it's going to shut down the Call of Duty Elite online service in just a few days, on February 28, and it will offer members two hours of double XP that can be spent in Call of Duty: Ghosts, for example.

Call of Duty Elite was ushered in by Activision as a brand new online service alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 back in 2011. The service offered a wide array of features for players of Modern Warfare 3 but also Black Ops 2, which appeared in 2012.

These included online stat tracking, as you were able to admire all of your achievements, challenges, and accomplishments online, not just in-game, but also offered a clan mechanic that allowed players to group up in clans and participate in community challenges or just fight against rival teams.

Last but not least, all sorts of social events were organized by Activision and its Beachhead team, which create the whole Elite service.

Now, however, it seems that Activision has decided to completely shut down the online service in just a few days, according to a big FAQ article on its Support website.

The main reason given by the company for this pretty sudden move is that it wants to focus on the Call of Duty app, which works with last year's Call of Duty: Ghosts game.

"Call of Duty Elite was designed to work with prior Call of Duty games and has begun winding down support for those titles since late last year, which ends on February 28, 2014. We’ve taken all the key learnings and fan feedback to create the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which takes some of the best and most popular features of Call of Duty Elite and introduces new elements such as Call of Duty Clan Wars."

More specifically, on February 28, 2014, at around 10am PST, the Call of Duty Elite service and website will go offline.

Alongside it, clan and clan management tools found in Modern Warfare 3 or Black Ops 2 will no longer work, as they were tied into Call of Duty Elite. What's more, items like a clan's medals won't be available for viewing as the site will be offline, and all the stats for the two games will be visible inside the actual games.

Call of Duty Elite members who created content and videos in their games will be able to view them via their YouTube accounts, provided they actually uploaded them from Elite to the video sharing website. In case you haven't, you can still do so until February 28.

All Call of Duty Elite users who logged into the service since January 1, 2014, will receive two hours of double XP time that can be used inside Call of Duty: Ghosts. This bonus will show up in their Ghosts profiles soon enough.

Call of Duty Elite Founder members will be able to keep their special emblem and continue to display it on their playercards.
