Activision has talked about its massively successful Call of Duty franchise during an investor’s call, promising that the next version of its online Call of Duty Elite service will arrive with the upcoming all-new Call of Duty game.

Activision took its Call of Duty franchise to a new level last year, in November, when it released the massively successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 first person shooter, alongside the Call of Duty Elite online service, which promised to augment the multiplayer experience in the actual game.

Now, Activision has talked about Elite’s performance, while promising that it will be taken to version 2.0 with the release of this year’s new Call of Duty game.

According to the company, Elite currently has 7 million registered users, of which 1.5 million are paying for a premium subscription that allows them exclusive early access to the downloadable content drops for Modern Warfare 3.

These stats make Elite “already one of the fastest-growing and largest online services ever,” according to Activision. It user base also makes it the “third largest interactive subscription service behind World of Warcraft and Xbox Live, both of which have been around for many years."

The service will continue growing, as the company promised that “additional features will arrive in the next 60 days.”

Call of Duty fans will be treated at the end of the year not just with an all new game, but also with Call of Duty Elite 2.0.

"We're already hard at work on Elite 2.0, with several innovative features being developed to work hand-in-hand with our new Call of Duty release," Activision mentioned, while declining to confirm any actual details.

If the company manages to continue building on the already impressive Elite experience, while the avoiding the technical issues it experienced when the service was released last year, then Elite could prove to be quintessential for future Call of Duty games.
