The importance of the Call of Duty franchise to Activision has once again been emphasized during a recent investor's call, with the company's CEO, Eric Hirshberg, confirming that the series will get the "largest lineup of new digital content" in 2011.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is shaping up to be one of the most important titles to be released this year, already surpassing its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, in terms of pre-orders.

We've already seen almost all of the multiplayer options revealed last week, and we saw YouTube videos of the already announced Zombies co-op mode and the yet unannounced Dead Ops arcade mode.

Now, Activision's CEO Eric Hirshberg, has revealed that the company will continue to support the franchise through the release of new digital content next year.

"We remain focused on continuing to bring the Call of Duty franchise to new consumers around the world. In 2011, we expect to enter the year with strong momentum from continued sales of Black Ops and the rest of the CoD catalogue," said Hirshberg.

"We've added significant resources to the brand and next year we'll offer Call of Duty community our largest line-up of exciting new digital content ever," he added.

Seeing as how Call of Duty: Black Ops will have quite a lot of different modes, ranging from the regular multiplayer, to the co-operative ones like the Zombies or the Dead Ops arcade, you can guess that the game's development studio, Treyarch, will pump out a lot of different maps and features for the title during next year.

The previous DLC map packs released for Modern Warfare 2 and even for the previous World at War title broke sales records, with plenty of people paying top dollar to experience the new maps in those previous games.

Whatever the new content will be, you can be sure that the company will make a lot of profit with it.
