PC gamers have been eagerly awaiting Call of Duty: Black Ops, one of the most expected games of the year, but it seems that the Treyarch-developed title is plagued by lag and a few interesting glitches.
It seems that no matter the PC configuration, either mid-range or high-end machines, the game has performance spikes every now and then, resulting in either freezes or slow-downs in single-player, or lag in multiplayer. While such a thing may be excusable when there are a lot of enemies on the screen or explosions occur, the freezes happen in generally quiet moments, when there aren't a lot of enemies present. According to some players, this is largely because Black Ops hogs too much of the processor's power, sometimes reaching nearly 100 percent load, resulting in the aforementioned lag or glitches. Black Ops’ multiplayer design director, David Vonderhaar, confirmed to Twitter users that the Treyarch team knows about the issues, but expect an official confirmation to arrive from Activision today. In the meantime, it seems that PC gamers are stuck with another blockbuster game plagued by issues, after the recent Fallout: New Vegas title, which was also ridden with glitches and bugs, even after quite a few patches that were released for all platforms. Call of Duty: Black Ops was heralded by Treyarch as a pure PC title, with support for mods, dedicated servers and other special services, unlike the previous Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which was released by Infinity Ward last year. Our own experience with Call of Duty: Black Ops on the PC suffered from the same lag, which is extremely bad in multiplayer. What about you? Are you satisfied up until now about Call of Duty: Black Ops on the PC? What other issues have you met up until now?

| Comment #1.2 by: T0pCL4SS on 10 Nov 2010, 09:32 GMT | It's HORRIBLE! I'm using an E8500 dual core (nothing special) overclocked at 4.27ghz. I'm also using an ATi 5970 graphics card... Single Player is full of horrendous lag/locking up even when I'm not moving.. and Multiplayer is the same. I've had the game for 48 hours and still, I'm unable to play it yet. And what's with the 30fps most of the time? I know that's not right.. I play MW2 Single Player with a constant 200 frames per second... and to see THIS from Black Ops? Absolutely ridiculous. This NEEDS to be fixed asap. |
| Comment #1.3 by: F@RGO on 10 Nov 2010, 13:02 GMT | i agree game is super ****,
why can't they sort this out before they sell, ooo ok because they cant wait to get there hands on the money to pay for ***** and **** ,
loooooooooooooossssssseeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrs |
| Comment #1.4 by: Kbouter on 10 Nov 2010, 17:36 GMT | Indeed. I can't believe they released such a bad game. I can play COD MWF 2 with all its graphics at the maximum. This game even lags with its graphics on the lowest settings. Again Treyarch releases a game wich isnt tested well. |
| Comment #1.5 by: jude on 10 Nov 2010, 21:12 GMT | why are you listing your specs if you are under requirement thats your own fault, i know you arent but i guess you didnt read the article THERE IS A PROBLEM they are looking into your performance issues should be fixed when they figure out whats wrong, they know it exsists they will fix it, stop being retarded |
| Comment #1.6 by: Insa on 10 Nov 2010, 21:35 GMT | topclass, unlimit your FPS, it comes limited to 30fps if i think correctly. |
| Comment #1.7 by: Kamacarzi on 10 Nov 2010, 22:07 GMT | I am running an intel core i5 overclocked to 3.8ghz with 4gb of 1600mhz ram and a ati 1gb 5850 on MW2 i could happly play multi player and video capture with FRAPS at between 80 and 91 frames but black ops fails to even get close to this. i get hit by a short lag spike once every two games or so and when film capturing i get 30 frames at best. but it seems if i limit my prossesor to a single core at 3.8ghz i never get a spiek and can cap fine. It seems black ops fails to deliver on multi cores but single core it will run fine |

i agree |
| Comment #1.9 by: snooze on 26 Nov 2010, 19:22 GMT | I WANT MY MONEY BACK PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! for me it's all about game play and performance. this game lacks the ability to please. if for some reason, you do like this game its because you have no experienced with fps gaming. Every experience FPS gamer knows it is about hand to eye coordination, and if anything renders your progress other then your own mind, body, and solo it's just cheap. put it this way. Your doing everything right but you dont get any rewards for you precession play. |
| Comment #1.10 by: RayCis on 10 Dec 2010, 09:17 GMT | When I installed it, I too experienced 'the directx error message' so I updated that first, (through Microsoft's website) but I didn't change the other thing included with Black ops, the Microsoft visual C option to change/remove). True, I also experienced the lag in sp (do mostly the sp only, not so mp inclined) The frame rate was too low to really enjoy.
BUT, when I installed the newly arrived patch 1.03, all problems disappeared! I'm now halfway through the game, and everything goes just fine, frame rates perfect...everything is smoothed out. graphics practically maxed out (play in 1680 x 1050)...
Intel E6850 dual core
4gb memory
Nvidea GTX 260 (896mb)
Windows XP prof. 32bits, servicepack 2 installed
2 harddisks, 320gb each, 1 external 500gb |
| Comment #1.11 by: Angry_at_COD on 13 Sep 2011, 23:42 GMT | I see many Microsoft Visiual C programs under add/remove programs, but there is no choice to upgrade upon right-clicking any of them. Do you have to uninstall and then reinstall the updated ones, and if so which ones? im hesitant to start uninstalling and reinstalling things. |
| Comment #2 by: dantezi on 10 Nov 2010, 09:18 UTC | reply to this comment | I think the game is awsome and have 2 days, so i think is to soon to start talking bad about the pc version and give it a fail image, of course is not good but im sure this issues will be fixed soon |
| Comment #2.1 by: apoc on 10 Nov 2010, 12:28 GMT | I agree... I have the E8600 with a 295 GTX and Im having ridiculous lag spikes and freezing... Im * . |
| Comment #3 by: Timmaayy on 10 Nov 2010, 09:18 UTC | reply to this comment | I managed in single play to run the opening video then it all freezes up. On multi player it won't run properly at all. Waiting for the patches. |
| Comment #4 by: foggy on 10 Nov 2010, 09:21 UTC | reply to this comment | wot a massive let down:( and we gave infin/ward stick not so sure at least game was solid |
| Comment #5 by: COD Player on 10 Nov 2010, 09:29 UTC | reply to this comment | Its not just the PC version, its the same on the PS3 and that's with an 11mbps connection, then there's constant 'Lost connection' messages popping up game after game. Infinity Ward did a great job adding Host Migration, looks like Treyarch have binned it... |
| Comment #6 by: Didee on 10 Nov 2010, 09:46 UTC | reply to this comment | I have "Phenom 965 Black Edition @ 3.7Ghz" 4GB DDR2 1066Mhz and 3450 HD Radeon Card.
When I check this on Runit website it says my PC is very fast. However, when I play it slow and lags. I even changed the graphic settings to minimal.
Still slow !!! |
| Comment #6.1 by: Banzai on 10 Nov 2010, 14:02 GMT | You have a terrible graphics card, it beats integrated, but a low end card such as that gives you no excuse to complain about a current game such as this, especially if you're playing under DX10.1.
3450's are one of the lowest, pre-gen dedicated cards. |
| Comment #6.2 by: Joker808 on 10 Nov 2010, 17:58 GMT | This is not rendering in DX10.1 though. 9.0 |
| Comment #6.3 by: stoneyyay on 14 Nov 2010, 14:57 GMT | yeah, the 3450 is a big time fail :\ i ran the 3650 hd for about 2 weeks then switched back to my ole geforce 6600 oc :) that card was bulletproof, one of the best, most reliable cards i ever owned, ran EVERY GAME up until gta 4 |
| Comment #7 by: and there were none on 10 Nov 2010, 10:00 UTC | reply to this comment | Tryarch made WaW and I knew they would f**k this game up. RAGE |
| Comment #8 by: james on 10 Nov 2010, 10:04 UTC | reply to this comment | i disabled aa and now i'm solid at 60 fps on extra at hd res
it's great and i'm really enjoying it
give treyarch a go, they'll have a patch out soon |
| Comment #9 by: efour on 10 Nov 2010, 10:16 UTC | reply to this comment | they have 1 week to fix this or it will go down as one of the biggest fails in gaming history since ACTIVISION said no dedicated servers for MW2..
BO at the moment is 10x worse than the worst p2p hosted game i have ever played in a whole year. |
| Comment #10 by: kenny on 10 Nov 2010, 11:08 UTC | reply to this comment | I already had the steam installed , tried installing Call of duty Black ops ,
It reads waiting time to play 22 Hours, Its disgusting , I have no idea what the game look like as Even though I have a High spec PC the game is unable to run. It absolute Rubbish this is all dawn to Treyarch to stop piracy , at that same time they continuously bombard you with meaningless advertising , I’m taking the game back , it is obviously full of problems, we should not have to wait for the developers to fix obvious errors , I left Steam on overnight and this morning I just wanted to see if it was able to work the game started and Froze its Rubbish |
| Comment #11 by: streamline on 10 Nov 2010, 11:22 UTC | reply to this comment | it is a real shame and the controller for windows int right |
| Comment #12 by: silian on 10 Nov 2010, 11:26 UTC | reply to this comment | It's unforgiveable that they released a game in this state. Im sure that they haven't even tested it out! The game needs a lot of patches and fixes, it's unplayable. I hope they will fix it soon. And by the way, whats with that singleplayer? Is it possible to run the game with a processor under 16 cores?!?! |
| Comment #12.1 by: jimbo081 on 11 Nov 2010, 01:03 GMT | No you need 32 cores for no lag. |
| Comment #13 by: enfd197 on 10 Nov 2010, 11:41 UTC | reply to this comment | The game sucks. I rather play MOH then this. With all the hype I thoght it would be a great game. what a let down. |
| Comment #14 by: tyyyyyyyy on 10 Nov 2010, 11:52 UTC | reply to this comment | Lag lag lag !!! Treyarch sucks !!!! |
| Comment #15 by: NegaTrooper on 10 Nov 2010, 11:55 UTC | reply to this comment | i say my internet is fine i have really good broadband etc whatever its called dunno but it is top range net. anyway i cant connect to games for long, i get intensive amounts of lag in game nd when i connect to even australian servers (i live in australia), it will be for a quick 2 mintues then it will say connection interupted and my ping would instantly raise to 999, nd it will say cannot connect to host or connection lost or something. i have checked out my interenet done reaserch about interent issues however my problem is still not fixed and on the rare chance that it dosnt happen i still have intensive amounts of lag online and offline. i believe that treyarch are idiots and should of made sure this was fixed before it was brought out -.- |
| Comment #15.1 by: cod black ops laaaaaag on multi on 11 Nov 2010, 15:14 GMT | that is also my problem i have 999 ping in the first 5 min of the match then it goes down to 40 ping in 1 min and then it goes up to 999 ping the rest of the match |
| Comment #16 by: Liljabro on 10 Nov 2010, 12:00 UTC | reply to this comment | Takes years to connect to a server! Wtf is this?! |
| Comment #17 by: Zentorian on 10 Nov 2010, 12:12 UTC | reply to this comment | The lag is horrendous, and I can't help but feel mad at Treyarch for releasing the game in this state. Waste of a few days off of work to play this game that is currently unplayable. |
| Comment #17.1 by: stoneyyay on 14 Nov 2010, 15:00 GMT | aparently it was ready for the origional sept 11 release date, but they pushed it to be "politically correct".. activision = fail :\ |
| Comment #18 by: GetThemAll on 10 Nov 2010, 12:17 UTC | reply to this comment | I feel really let down. Unplayable last night. The initial install > 1h and mp a waste of time. Good machine with 10Mb internet. |
| Comment #19 by: Neilly on 10 Nov 2010, 12:27 UTC | reply to this comment | How about we all go back to ET and RTCW? lol At least those games are solid! You'd think games made by gamers would be far less problematic than this. Have to say tho, I ran the single player fine except for 3 times I had to restart missions again coz it froze.
Really, the game devs and producers need to get a grip and sort this.

| Comment #20 by: Habile on 10 Nov 2010, 12:41 UTC | reply to this comment | I was extremely disappointed when I had to spend hours searching to understand why despite having a retail DVD the game insisted on downloading the full 8Gb via Steam.
Now I am further disappointed that the game is virtually unplayable with an extremely low FPS rate... this is not good, especially given so much hype! Activision really should test in the 'real world' before releasing. |
| Comment #20.1 by: Scooby on 10 Nov 2010, 18:30 GMT | you should of delete the content on steam and loaded from the disc, it takes ages to download from steam especially when every one else is doing the same |
| Comment #21 by: Legend on 10 Nov 2010, 12:54 UTC | reply to this comment | if treyarch don't fix this in the next few days i am sure that nobody will buy it and it will be the worst game in the history of call of duty series ... |
| Comment #22 by: F@RGO on 10 Nov 2010, 13:03 UTC | reply to this comment | Absolute ************, dont buy dont recommend, this is how they catch us everytime, bloody moneywolfs |
| Comment #23 by: jefffan24 on 10 Nov 2010, 13:09 UTC | reply to this comment | If your on a windows machine go to the task manager (ctrl shift esc) and go to the processes tab. Find BlackOps.exe and right click it, go to priorities and give blackops a High Priority.
Then go back to processes and find Steam32.exe or steam.exe and right click it, go to priority and give steam a low priority.
This won't fix the problems but it makes multiplayer bareable. |
| Comment #23.1 by: Bambi on 11 Nov 2010, 22:40 GMT | thanks i will try that tonight when i'm home from class. |
| Comment #24 by: Nokia on 10 Nov 2010, 13:13 UTC | reply to this comment | Its sux. I cant't play because of lag! Just waisted my money on preorder! |
| Comment #25 by: TiMiT on 10 Nov 2010, 13:22 UTC | reply to this comment | Is this because PC versions aren't getting properly tested while the console versions are tested all the time? Once again it seems that PC users are left out in the cold. |
| Comment #25.1 by: Rage on 11 Nov 2010, 11:56 GMT | Dumb *.... -.-
The console games have the same problems as said ABOVE. |
| Comment #25.2 by: stoneyyay on 14 Nov 2010, 15:02 GMT | i think its actually a lot of the anti piracy software they use, creates a lot of bugs, and memory holes |
| Comment #26 by: 762gunner on 10 Nov 2010, 13:44 UTC | reply to this comment | Same issue in single player mode. The came lags so bad it is not playable. |
| Comment #26.1 by: abubaker on 22 Jun 2011, 19:25 GMT | mee 2 plz give me a solution |
| Comment #27 by: Syntax on 10 Nov 2010, 13:48 UTC | reply to this comment | I'm loving it, I run on a Core 2 Quad, @ 2.4, 4gb ram, and a OGC 250 on Win7 Ultimate 64bit.
Game has spikes of lags now and again, some graphical glitches, but it's very playable, and VERY Fun. The online play is very intense and fast paced compared to Mw2, I loved it. |
| Comment #28 by: Cudds on 10 Nov 2010, 13:52 UTC | reply to this comment | I can't believe the amount of expectiations you guys have. Chill out. So maybe you can't play online on day one, or could be up to day 7. The single player is fun. And....BRRRAAAAIIIIIINNNSSSSS
I had lag on the PS3. It was playable, but annoying. |
| Comment #29 by: DaveMan on 10 Nov 2010, 14:16 UTC | reply to this comment | I had this problem aswell on WaW. After a patch everything was alright for me, so i say, treyarch what you waiting for. |
| Comment #30 by: pzxr on 10 Nov 2010, 14:33 UTC | reply to this comment | why did they mess with the good working mechanics of the MW2? I cannot join buddies via steam, graphics look sub-par and the glitches/freezes. This was a game i was looking forward to, i don't even know if a patch will cure this disappointment |
| Comment #31 by: ArMorPlaTed on 10 Nov 2010, 14:38 UTC | reply to this comment | Ive had nothing but lag and slow down on my pc and i have a high end computer. Makes online play terrible, and single player is no better... it was using dang near 100% of my processor... will wait for a patch or something. MOH wasnt all that but it least it ran good, and looked nice, it just suffered from good online mode gameplay.... |
| Comment #32 by: Leroy on 10 Nov 2010, 14:53 UTC | reply to this comment | I have a Q6600 at 3.4ghz and a hd5870. I can play the single player no problem. Just passed it on veteran. (theres a bit in Vietnam that was insane.) Went to try multi player and it was a joke. Was quite excited for a cod with dedicated servers after the mess that was mw2 multi player. I connected and found it un playable. Massive lag spikes where I would accelerate or slow down then get shot. I understand it has just been released and may need a patch but has it been tested at all? Honestly don't buy it for multiplayer untill it gets fixed, If you do like me your waisting your money. |
| Comment #34 by: Earthyn on 10 Nov 2010, 15:21 UTC | reply to this comment | Yes it is a good but game, buts its pathetic how they overlooked all these issues, i mean they didn't even beta test the pc version... |
| Comment #35 by: sPiDeRmOnKeY on 10 Nov 2010, 15:53 UTC | reply to this comment | when i first tried multiplayer, i couldnt even join a server, my ping was 999 and got booted right away. i finally got the game to run smoothly after hours of changing settings and cussing out the game. i had no issues with single player, but multiplayer was horrible. i am still not as impressed as when i first played MW2. if something doesnt happen soon, im going back to MW2! |
| Comment #36 by: sPiDeRmOnKeY on 10 Nov 2010, 15:54 UTC | reply to this comment | they should have had a beta version just like MOH to test the servers and fix issues before it was released. |
| Comment #37 by: drebin on 10 Nov 2010, 16:00 UTC | reply to this comment | I'm running an i7 930 (overclocked to 4Ghz) with a GTX 460 FTW with 6GB of DDR3 corsair dominator memory on a rampage 3 mobo (obviously on a Win 7 x64 platform) with a striped SSD setup.
No problems - although I did have to defragment and verify the integrity of the game files as the first time I played it the game's intro into single player was a little choppy.
single player now runs very smoothly using pretty good settings (everything enabled, AA x4,
AF at about 50%, 1080p... you get the picture). FRAPS shows a minimum of 50 fps with a max of around 90.
multiplayer; using similar settings is pretty rough at best. even on official treyarch servers hosting at ~70 ping, i'm chugging around with an average ping of 120. yes, my internet isn't great (BT's idea of "20 meg broadband" only pulls in 7mbps for me) but i'll be getting Virgin's 50meg fibre set up soon so who knows about that.
as the article says, treyarch knows about the issues and fixes will be rolled out soon. so keep your pants on guys :)
if it helps, try tweaking your settings. close background apps, tie off other network connections when playing online (limewire, torrents etc). graphically, lower your resolution a little or turn off AA or AF or even shadows/bullet impacts/smoke edges. this will lower the stress on your G/CPU and improve your gaming speeds. yes, it wont look the nuts, but when treyarch sort out their resources issue you can stick the settings back up again.
all the best and frag the rest,
drebin |
| Comment #37.1 by: Rugbyleaguer on 10 Nov 2010, 22:04 GMT | Its ok saying switch things down but you shouldnt have to, I can play any other game at full resolutions, even had Medal of honor up at 32x AA and it runs fine on my overclocked 460GTX 8GB RAM and Q6660, but soon as I start this pile of crap its as laggy as hell.
At the end of they day they are getting enough money from us so it should be right from the start. If you bought a TV and it didnt work properly you would get a replacement not have to wait 2 weeks for it to be sorted.
All it is, is a tarted up version of World at War with MW2 trimmings. Not the game we were anticipating. |
| Comment #38 by: daylight on 10 Nov 2010, 17:10 UTC | reply to this comment | I have a rather old machine (C2D E6750@ 3 GHz, HD3870 OC) but Black Ops runs quite fluently, except for those little annoying lags occuring every few seconds for like a third of a second. |
| Comment #39 by: m3my on 10 Nov 2010, 17:38 UTC | reply to this comment | I was very looking forward for this game, but now when i am playing, ehm i am not even playing, like moving thru the screenshots xD I have Athlon dual on 3,8 Mhz and 4850 ati radeon with 4GB ram. No other game is laging or freezing to me on high details, but this... Even when i am playing on lowest graphic, game cant be playing... especialy its laging when i am moving forward. If i am staying on one place or going back in game, game is smooth, but when I push forward to move on next place, it just start laging like a hell. It´s unplayable. Sadly waiting for patch |
| Comment #40 by: Alex on 10 Nov 2010, 17:49 UTC | reply to this comment | CoD: Black Ops works flawlessly at maximum settings with no glitches lag or extreme loading like some people say. Maybe you should test it on more than one computers? |
| Comment #41 by: niggas aint shit on 10 Nov 2010, 18:23 UTC | reply to this comment | honestly, i am satisfied with the game content. once they fix the lag issues, there wont be any problems. this is really just like when STALKER CLEAR SKY was released in america, it had really bad problems the first week that crashed the game, once they fixed it there was nothing wrong. just a few files were corrupted or something. |
| Comment #42 by: hjhj on 10 Nov 2010, 18:26 UTC | reply to this comment | The game is extremely laggy, there is no way to enjoy this game with the way it is right now! |

| Comment #46 by: Mart on 10 Nov 2010, 18:58 UTC | reply to this comment | Just goes to show that the old crappy console tech in use on xbox takes priority (again).
Im not happy with this game there was no beta testing and im having to wait for a patch for play it. |

| Comment #48 by: goddammachine on 10 Nov 2010, 19:12 UTC | reply to this comment | Well i have had mine 2 days and to be honest i am not impressed , first of all i had major issues with my graphics card, being an ATI EAH5670 HD with 1gig gddr5 was not even letting me load it in i did the usual look on the net see what issues other people were having and this graphics card seems to have major issues, this shouldn't make any difference normally i find included in my system is 8 gig of ddr2 system ram ( only 3gig shows) a quad core Intel Pentium processor all running on an MSI mobo, you would really think with all that power i would get a good crack at the whip but no major lagg and major freezes, i even went as far to change my operating system to windows 7 ultimate, from xp pro, for some strange reason it now runs, but badly it still freezes, still lag's and really its unplayable, not if you can bear the lag that is..i must say i am very disappointed in the game that i had been waiting for with baited breath only to be let down by glitches, why was this not tested correctly, we paid £45 for a game realy that is just good for a rather large coffee mug... |
| Comment #49 by: dave on 10 Nov 2010, 20:00 UTC | reply to this comment | It is a joke they spend all this time working on the game with betas ect and they dont relise something like this ! i mean did they even try to run the game themselves before they released it utter muck up ! |
| Comment #50 by: Unholysavage on 10 Nov 2010, 20:24 UTC | reply to this comment | I'm also wishing that I had never bought this game. it's almost unplayable with all the stutter/lag. massive disappointment, absolutely unacceptable to put something this horribly flawed on the market. |
| Comment #51 by: StoLLe on 10 Nov 2010, 20:36 UTC | reply to this comment | Great game, if they only could fix the * lag in-game and buggs for the PC!!! |
| Comment #52 by: Tommy on 10 Nov 2010, 22:16 UTC | reply to this comment | Lots of lags and freezes after every 20 min of game play. Knowing its not my PC. Played COD Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2 with no issues. |

| Comment #54 by: ATRIX on 10 Nov 2010, 23:06 UTC | reply to this comment | here in uk i had the game more or less on release, some had the daybefore through pre-order and installed it on midnight (it wouldnt let you do it earlier) i had install issue's with errors through steam client? when i went into single player the game crashed with a FATAL SYSTEM ERROR. my rig is more than capable of playing it. went through my system setup for conflicts nothing! run gaming mode for my keyboard and black ops screen popped up telling me to plug in my XB360 controller WTF!!!! de-installed game and installed it in safemode with networking and had no problems on install restarted and could enter single player without any problem whilst playing it was imediatly notice of the FPS spike went into task manager and opened up my GPU monitor and both are at 100% my core temps went skyhigh and my fans begun to spin at 100%. this pc version is not worthy of beta test! and in the uk we have something called the sales of goods act
where by if a product is not as described or fit for purpose you can legally take it back for a refund!! and will be doing so MEDAL OF HONOUR HERE I COME!! |

this game is really really bad in multiplayer and the single player is as bad. the single player stutters so much that this game is definately unplayable as you cannot get the feel for the action with the stuttering glitches. I got a refund back from the store because of this. will never buy another pc game again until i read all comment reviews and i would suggest you all do the same. i was lucky to get the refund but some will not. 0/10 for this game. |
| Comment #60 by: fearsomebear on 11 Nov 2010, 01:20 UTC | reply to this comment | After The assasination the game lagged so bad in the campaign mode it was slow motion to move forward and to arm myself to fire reload or change weapons. Left to right movements were normal speed. This lasted the rest of this section of the campaign, very frustrating. What is the answer to this problem Blizzard? |
| Comment #61 by: lawyerboy on 11 Nov 2010, 02:04 UTC | reply to this comment | Time for a class action lawsuit--it is the only way companies do their job properly before the game is released. |

| Comment #66 by: Fullmetal on 11 Nov 2010, 03:47 UTC | reply to this comment | I am running a very high end custom gaming machine and experiencing the exact same lag. I hope there is a patch soon! |
| Comment #67 by: grayfox on 11 Nov 2010, 03:47 UTC | reply to this comment | I found the game to be a waste of money. PC MP is one of the worst games I have played for a long time . The vids they posted on the internet and on TV look great but I dont see that in the game. this is nothing more then COD with new maps. I thing they mislead the PC gamers with their ad's. It is the last COD game I will buy. |

I have yet to play the single player campaign at all due to freeze ups and the multiplayer keeps freezing at the "waiting for more players" screen then suddenly a "lost connection to the host" message.....LAME! $60 for a game I can't even play |
| Comment #70 by: Blackiron on 11 Nov 2010, 04:52 UTC | reply to this comment | Game has a flaw in the config files. f cntrl "threaded" and change it to a 1 if u have a multicore processor. then f cntrl "gpu" and change it to a 1 if u have dual cards. you must change the config files for both single AND multi player. this isnt the only change needed to be made by Treyarch, but at least it is playable. |
| Comment #71 by: santiago33 on 11 Nov 2010, 05:05 UTC | reply to this comment | I am experiencing the hesitation, lag, slowdown in multiplayer and singleplayer as well. I am running on Core 2 E8400 3Ghz, 8800GTX and w/4GB RAM that runs CODMW2 smoothly even with settings cranked up. I thought buying this game was a no brainer but now it is the waiting game as we wait for the first patch and hopefully this will be fixed asap. If not, there s/b a class action suit against these greedy ba$tards for taking our $ and running all the way to the bank laughing. They should have postponed the release of this game to get it smoothed out. I can't believe how awful it runs. |
| Comment #72 by: sugacookie on 11 Nov 2010, 05:21 UTC | reply to this comment | Medal of Honor ZERO Issues. This POS "Black Ops" lag and studder even on the lowest settings. Now by all means i dont have the greatest comp anymore but medal of honor i was able to play on high settings.

| Comment #74 by: Zach on 11 Nov 2010, 05:57 UTC | reply to this comment | I have a q8400 quad core 2.66 with an NVIDIA 9800gt and my experience with the single player mode has been fine, with the occasional slowdown from 90fps to about 45 or so, but multiplayer is HORRIBLE! I don't know if you need a super-computer to run it or what, but it's pretty awful for me, no matter what resolution. I checked my performance data while in-game and saw that each of my 4 processors were at 85% and up. The whole thing is odd since MW2's multiplayer seemed to look a lot more clear and crisp, and this one comes out looking muddy and indistinct. Hopefully a patch clears up this whole ordeal. |
| Comment #75 by: Koske on 11 Nov 2010, 08:18 UTC | reply to this comment | PLEASE FIX THIS LAG ISSUE .. I HAVE A VERY GOOD INTERNET CONECTION.. I NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH LAG ON PS3 BUT THIS GAME -BLACK OPS- IS UNPLAYBLE WITH SO MUCH LAG..................... |
| Comment #75.1 by: Topo Gigio on 11 Nov 2010, 15:57 GMT | I got a ping of 18/21 on almost all USA servers, but still the game is chocking, lagging, hanging, crawling to a unplayable crap |
| Comment #76 by: pro on 11 Nov 2010, 09:38 UTC | reply to this comment | The game obviously has issues WHATEVER the computer specification.
I got a Geforce 460GTX 1024mb, phenom 2 x3 720 overclocked to 3.4ghz and other games fly, this one, even with vsync off, no anisotropic or antialiasing and billenear filter and no shadows, STILL slows down at various places.
a patch is definitely needed to fix this crap! |

| Comment #81 by: Arioch666 on 11 Nov 2010, 12:49 UTC | reply to this comment | I'm not getting any lag spikes or freezes in the single player but the freezes in multilayer seem to be more a server connection problem than a pc problem coz it looks like the server is not maintaining a constant connection to the clients causing packet loss or something to that effect.if it was a server lag spike everyone would lash but it seems to favor someone at some point of time coz I have noticed in some kill cams I'm suck but the person killing is able to move just fine.also none of the kill cams have shown proper kills all of them are choppy its really terrible the game also seems to look a lot worse than mw2

| Comment #90 by: Cekken on 11 Nov 2010, 18:42 UTC | reply to this comment | I've played this game on two of my desktops, one is an e8400 Wolfdale with 4 gigs of ddr2 800 and a gtx 470, other is an i5 (quad) Lynnfield at ~4ghz with 4 gigs of ddr3 1600 with a gtx 470, the wolfdale machine tends to lag, but the i5 machine runs between 90-120fps
(Acer GD235HZbid monitor for 3D vision.) and never has lag spikes or other issues regarding gameplay. The engine just relies more on newer cpu architechture versus MW2/W@W/etc which were very similar games. |
| Comment #91 by: Trav on 11 Nov 2010, 19:47 UTC | reply to this comment | I finished the single player campaign last night and played through the entire thing on PC without a single moment of lag. >_>

| Comment #94 by: Optimist on 11 Nov 2010, 21:09 UTC | reply to this comment | I hope Steam and Treyarch go bankrupt and all the creators go homeless. |
| Comment #95 by: John PC user UK on 11 Nov 2010, 21:44 UTC | reply to this comment | it will be an absolutely amazing game when the issues are corrected with patches. Poor CPU performance dose cause some really bad playing conditions, but after doing a lot of testing, i have come the conclusion that there is some issue with the net code or the actual server program not being very well coded. maybe even some thing to do with the fact the the whole time you play the servers are collecting data about the game that you can in some cases download later watch as a film and record it. That could be the reason behind the change in lag
(using the in game Lag-o-Meter)
you can see the transfer spikes and loss of packets happen as the bad lag dose. Anyway, enough of that there is also the Low FPS issue, caused (at leaste in my case) by the lack of Crossfire/Sli support (multiGPU) as when i disabled my second GPU i got 3 times as many fps going from 15-30 up to 85-100 still with some heavy frops due to high resolution and only a single GPU active. All in all once the problems have been fixed the customisation and well paced multiplayer action will make this a brilliant game. |
| Comment #96 by: viralmachine on 11 Nov 2010, 22:06 UTC | reply to this comment | yeah i have quad core proc and a 9800gtx graphics card as well as 4 gb ram and this game crashes my pc. i play modern warfare 2 easily and even crysis (the first one) runs good but this game for some reason lags like crap there was an update to it today but seemed to make it worse. changed controls and still lagged. |
| Comment #97 by: Bambi on 11 Nov 2010, 22:31 UTC | reply to this comment | the game is a huge let down, it's unplayable as of now and if it doesn't get fixed so where my more then capable PC can run it i will not be pre-ordering a game again, and not ever buying a treyarch game. black ops is pure rubbish until properly fixed |

| Comment #109 by: l_e on 13 Nov 2010, 14:55 UTC | reply to this comment | When I bought BO I was sure, that dedicated servers will save me from lags, disconnects in the middle of the match and cheaters (because of bans). Well I didn't meet any cheaters so far, but lags and dcs are like a normal feature to PC edition. There are moments when I can play fluently, but sometimes I have enormous lags.
By the way: do anyone of you tried to play with steam friends? Connecting wiht them to the one server is very hard. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Team system in mw2 was good feature and I hope Treyarch and Activison will also do something about this. |

| Comment #111 by: GHoST on 13 Nov 2010, 17:35 UTC | reply to this comment | This game LOOKS amazing. I say looks because it's a mission to even play the game without it lagging and generally running like a slideshow. Even with everything on the bare minimum my performance still suffers. This really pisses me off after waiting for this game for weeks. Really hope they bring out a patch to fix everything pretty soon. |

| Comment #113 by: Coco on 14 Nov 2010, 02:32 UTC | reply to this comment | Another reason not to have closed testing. It should have been a public beta, than these glitches wouldn't be released at launch. I got the patch but while more playable, the audio threw HDMI suddenly had a high squeel continued to play the game another 5 min than locked up my system and had to reboot. For a $70 game and such hype the fell on their a$$ releasing this junk without proper testing. |

| Comment #125 by: Stephen on 16 Nov 2010, 23:26 UTC | reply to this comment | The game will load and get to the main menu screen fairly often but every single time without fail it will freeze on either that screen for either multi-player or single-player. It's almost like the game is running in the background because the cursor still moves (when not frozen) but the cursor is covered up by the "busy" cursor. I have done everything I can yet still cannot get it to work. What do I do? |
| Comment #126 by: Dru on 17 Nov 2010, 00:27 UTC | reply to this comment | So I’ve figured what the problems was with my Call of Duty Black Ops MP graphics stuttering.
My current setup
Windows 7 64bit
I7 920 stock clock
GTX 480 latest w/GTS 250 phsyx, nvidia 260.99 drivers
6gb ddr3
X-fi Titanium Fatil1ty soundcard PCI-e
Before and after the patch I was still experiencing what seemed to be mix of lag and stuttering performance problems. I’ve tried the a variety of supposed tweaks from .cfg edits of multi-thread, multi-gpu etc…but none have made a difference.
I’ve tried setting my primary(GTX480) to handle Physx(in the nvidia control panel and had GTS250 neutral) AND reverting back to the 2nd gpu(GTS250) as physx and still no luck.
I decided to remove my GTX 480 for power saving reasons and moved up the GTS250 as the primary video adapter. Fired up COD Black Ops(exact same ingame graphical settings) and played on the same server and to my surprise I was having no stuttering/lag effect issues. At first I was afraid there maybe something wrong with the gtx480 so I installed it(did not install the GTS250 as 2nd gpu) and even that everything was fine. Decided to install the GTS250, started up the game and the problems came back. I even swapped the cards around making the GTS250 as primary and 480 as second gpu and same stuttering problems again. So thru this observation can I confirm atleast with my system that running multiple gpus caused my system to render unfavorable gaming experience even after the patch installed thru Steam. I’m no expert but I hope this helps with anyone else to troubleshoot with their systems with multi-gpus. |

radion hd4870 and the game lags in sp and mp min settings on steam so i tried a different version of black ops that doesent use steam witch i would not normaly do.
Got game running on max settings except textures are on high no lag on single player still some on multiplayer so i wonder if steam is contributing to the problems we are having |

Gamers must revolt against these actions; companies send the games out half finished for a quick profit, because they know that is gona sell.

I also have a 20MBit DSL 2 and its still happening even after flashing BIOS, VBIOS and formating windows and making sure all my drivers are up to date. I spent the better part of 24hrs trying to fix it. (I got the game the second it was released and was home in less than 2 mins lol) Can we get a refund? |
| Comment #137 by: Reaper on 21 Nov 2010, 17:44 UTC | reply to this comment | ita a great game BUT: its not like activition to release a game thats so buggy or glitchy. im using an intel core 2 duo 2.9 ghz. GeForce gtx 260 overclocked. 4 gigs of ddr3 ram.
in single player or multiplayer it lags horribly no matter the pc or ingame settings. set it to full graphics (which ran mw2 completely lag free) or lowest graphics and no change what so ever in lag. this game is very gripping in the sense that its action packed, always leaving you wanting more but the lag is just way to big of a problem to continue playing. i hope they release a fix soon..... |
| Comment #138 by: angry on 21 Nov 2010, 17:45 UTC | reply to this comment | This is the worst game ever. Slowdown in single player, lag in multiplayer and cost me $60 for unplayble game. |

| Comment #152 by: Ihatelag on 27 Nov 2010, 01:25 UTC | reply to this comment | Yes the game lags whenever you fire your weapon and does not matter about graphic configurations. |
| Comment #153 by: sM@Ck_d@b on 27 Nov 2010, 08:48 UTC | reply to this comment | FYI
I upgraded my hardware in anticipation of Black Ops. I now have the following:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
ASUS AM3 Motherboard Nvidia SLi
Phenom II X4 965 Quad Core Processor 3.40 GHz
6 gigs DDR3 RAM
2 EVGA Nvidia G-Force GTX260 896mb video cards with SLi bridge installed.
Western Digital 640GB 7200 rpm hard drive
I definitely get lag in Multiplayer but the most annoying is the total and complete "vapor lock" which freezes my screen. I then have to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to access the "Task Manager" and shutdown the game process. This happens several times a day or at least once every time I sit down to play the game.
If Treyarch is aware of the problems then great. I just wanted to chime in with my experience so far. I like the game but I am not happy with the friend interface compared to MW2 or the choice of weapons and I am definitely not happy with the performance. |
| Comment #154 by: Barn!e on 27 Nov 2010, 12:09 UTC | reply to this comment | You can fix the lag. For some reason the configs were set wrong by default.
you need to alter
seta r_multiGpu "0"
seta r_multithreaded_device "1"
They had it the other way round like we all have multi GPU and single processors lol
The config file is in steam apps, black ops, players, called config for single player and config_mp for multiplayer
Cheers,
Barn!e |
| Comment #155 by: Inantermark on 28 Nov 2010, 12:39 UTC | reply to this comment | The game should not have been released while such an obvious issue (lag and freezing) was occurring. They should have found a fix before letting customers buy their product. OK, I know they cannot fix every possible bug before a release, but seriously the lag problem is a game killer, and it is so blatant how could they have possibly overlooked it?
Hopefully they will learn from the bad reputation, that this game will give them. All the earlier games have been epic. This lack of testing is a huge let down. |

| Comment #157 by: RayCis on 02 Dec 2010, 15:07 UTC | reply to this comment | True, also experience lags in sp...with a gtx260 card that should'nt be the case, am playing full screen (1680 x 1050). world of war (from the same maker) runs very smooth. Also, 1st first mission (kill castro) can't help but the AR-16 rifle (fore-runner of the m16) should'nt be there; in april '61 this rifle had hardly left the testing procedure (let alone the grenade launcher underneath) Only in '65 the m16 appeared on the scene. |

The graphic sux and gameplay is probably the wrost i even played.

| Comment #171 by: ThatFawknSnipur on 04 Jan 2011, 12:50 UTC | reply to this comment | I like CoD Black OPS, but the lag is indeed a problem, just played a game and the screen kept freezing and people were warping around.
I also have a problem with the spawning system and the way they decided to "Nerfed" the sniper rifles so people can't quickscope anymore, now the sniper rifles are almost as good as useless, they might as well take them out of the game. |
| Comment #172 by: t2o on 05 Jan 2011, 01:33 UTC | reply to this comment | It's junk for on-line play.
I have now spent about $500 on the game and hardware and it's still unplayable in multi player guise.
Also, Steam must think everybody in the world has unlimited download speed and data. I could have cried when I saw yet another title muddled by Steam. Urrg! |
| Comment #173 by: CDR_CARNAGE on 26 Jan 2011, 02:32 UTC | reply to this comment | To put it short... It locks up when you stop to save the game. You have to go to "Task Manager" in order to end the frozen screen. And in "Revelations" it has only one out of dozens of attempts made it past Agent Hudson holding a gun at Mason. Words continue for a while then stop. I feel this is a rip off, ruins the story line and the creators cheat the consumer of a full enjoyable experience, and lets not forget the part in Hue City where Woods and Mason push to door open and the screen goes blank. I've tried everything when it very often happens like shoot my gun all over and start throwing Grenades! Nothing short of a fully functional game will do or pay consumers their money back. After all Automobil makers are required to fix faulty mechanisms and tainted food recalled and consumers refunded! |

| Comment #180 by: Dark on 06 Feb 2011, 18:25 UTC | reply to this comment | COD BO is horrible on all systems, and no it is not harder to play than MW2 is actually easier to play, the game is just slow, boring, dull and lifeless. There's no color, the weapons are awfully bad and the recoil is sidewards and up, and the customizations are just a gimmick that adds nothing to the gameplay. |
| Comment #181 by: poo game on 11 Feb 2011, 13:19 UTC | reply to this comment | ive owned this game for roughly 3 months worked perfect on multiplayer..which is entirely why i bought for. and one day it just decided not to work and hasnt for about a further month.. formatted my computer upgraded drivers etc etc and still * ... wtf mate |
| Comment #182 by: Gunslinger X on 18 Feb 2011, 04:53 UTC | reply to this comment | The only major lag issues I suffer from is in the menu screen in multiplayer after you hit start or (left mouse button) in my case. It will randomly freeze for about 5 seconds only when going into Create a Class. It also usually freezes for 20 seconds when I go to modify my killstreaks, and on rare occasions I've had to restart my system simply because it freezes for way longer.
In game my ping at most has been 35 playing intensive domination matches. I don't lag and I can't tell my FPS but everything runs smooth, except occasional network connections on the servers side.
System:
Intel Celeron E3300 Wolfdale 2.5GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor (OC'ed to 3.12GHz)
4 GB RAM
Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5
Needless to say my system is cheap yes but it runs Black Ops S/MP smoothly on max settings with no lag and a low ping. and I've never seen it go above 35% CPU usage even running Internet for music off playlist.com and using CoD.
The last and most annoying part is the game does not save my control settings forcing me to change controls while in game. Very annoying, also it doesn't save past the 3rd chapter of single player thus when I want to play anything but kin dor koten or w/e I have to beat the game each time. |
| Comment #183 by: Fluffy on 19 Feb 2011, 18:27 UTC | reply to this comment | Black Ops is further away from being a PC game than Modern Warfare 2 was. Even with the lack of dedicated servers, MW2 was at least not overrun by bad performance and played exceptionally well on most PC's -just like MW1. Black Ops was touted to have everything MW2 lacked, which on certain levels it did, but not performance wise. This is an obvious port that even high end PC's suffer on. |

---
sorry if i double posted but not sure if it went threw the first time and i added in how much mem i have witch black ops only use's like a gig witch is retarted they should have made it use 3 since thats the max of 32bit OS's "i think" |
| Comment #189 by: Fatman on 09 Mar 2011, 15:30 UTC | reply to this comment | My spec tho...
5870 HD
Core 2 Duo [E8400] 3.00GHz
8GB RAM
Thermaltake 600W
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
After all, I CANNOT be too harsh on the 'Archs'.
They DO make awesome games and Black Ops is no exception... Story is too испуганный!
They should have tested the game properly under more strict (PC) conditions and then released. Besides, consoles have strict limitations and releasing a game for one is after all "limited". (Whatever the console requirements, the game is given a minimum restriction and published.
PC enthusiats will always try different combinations of hardware to play the latest games in maximum graphics.

My system runs a 2.5GHz processor, 4 GB RAM, 1024 MB dedicated memory to video card (translates as decent for gaming), and an intel core duo cpu on a 64-bit operating system for vista. I also have an NVIDIA GT 130M video card. I originally thought the problem was my graphics card, as I had recently updated the driver before purchasing Black OPs, but I have tried everything, system restore to point before update, uninstalling driver and reinstalling from NVIDIA.com, putting all my settings on low, unclicking steam cloud sync, typing /cl_maxlimit 100 or w/e it is in the console, nothing works. My PC works with no lag on many games that others struggle with lag on, and I am convinced now that it is the game and not my computer or settings. If anyone could help me with this, i would appreciate it because I paid quite a bit of money for a game I can't really play... |

I have quite a strange error in my black ops game. The thing is that when I play PC Single Player campaign the players who are with me suddenly stop moving forward in any of the missions. This results in not being able to accomplish the mission and having to reset the mission.
Anybody knows a solution for this?
