Great news for Call of Duty fans who won't be going to the massive Call of Duty XP convention in Los Angeles tomorrow, as they can still celebrate the massive gathering, alongside Labor Day, of course, with a new Double XP weekend for the latest game in the series, Black Ops.

Hype surrounding the Call of Duty franchise is reaching critical mass, as Activision, its owner, starts this Saturday the first edition of the Call of Duty XP event, where it will showcase the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 game, the new Elite online service, as well as host a tournament for the multiplayer mode in the new title, and lots of other activities, shown in a video introduction yesterday.

For those who won't make it to the convention, Activision wants to make sure they'll still be connected to the Call of Duty experience, and is running a special, extended Double XP weekend on all platforms for Black Ops.

The announcement was made by Josh Olin, the community manager of Black Ops development studio, Treyarch, who revealed on Twitter that in honor of the Labor Day weekend, all Black Ops owners who engage in the multiplayer mode of the game will get double the amount of experience points for their kills and accomplishments.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Double XP weekend starts on today, at 10am PDT, and ends at Tuesday at 10am PDT. It applies for all versions of the game, including PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

The bonus weekend also applies for the recently released Rezurrection downloadable content pack for Black Ops, which was released last month for the Xbox 360 version of the game, and is getting ready to debut for the PC and PlayStation 3.

The map pack brought new scenarios for the cooperative Zombies mode of Blacks Ops, in the form of an all-new Moon level, and the remastered versions of the Zombies maps from Treyarch's previous Call of Duty game, World at War.
