The mechanic isn't something new for Treyarch

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 shouldn't be likened to Titanfall just because it features wallrunning, developer Treyarch says, as the studio mentions that it's incorporated this mechanic into the heart of the new shooter, and calling it a copy of Respawn's title is a disservice.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was revealed to the world at the beginning of the week, and quite a lot of different details appeared about the game's new mechanics and about how it enhances on the futuristic sci-fi theme seen in Black Ops 2, Treyarch's most recent project, or in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which arrived from Sledgehammer Games last year.

The new wallrunning system isn't a copy of Titanfall

One of the main new features in the upcoming shooter is a new movement system based on small jump jets that allow for wallrunning, extended jumps, and other such things.

As you can imagine, it didn't take long for shooter fans to compare the new system to the similar mechanic seen in 2014's Titanfall, which also depicted agile soldiers blitzing around a futuristic battlefield.

However, Treyarch boss Mark Lamia confirms to Eurogamer that this is a feature that's been baked into Black Ops 3 right from the get-go, and not some last-minute addition just to draw in the Titanfall fans to the new shooter. What's more, his team did wallrunning as a feature in the early Spider-Man games, so it's not something new to the studio.

The new system is fully integrated in the new game

Lamia adds that the enhanced movement system is integrated fully into the new shooter, so that fans will feel right at home while using the mechanics to go around the battlefield.

"Number one, we've been wall-running since Spider-Man - before all of this! Number two, the team's making a movement system. It feels unique. It's integrated into the map design in a way that no other game does. It feels like it's connected, and it's fluid. I think it does a disservice to pull one of our systems out and say it's like this other game. We wanted to create this very athletic, powerful performer on the battlefield, and all these movements are connected."

Black Ops 3 is set to receive quite a few more details as we get closer to its launch on November 6 worldwide for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
