Activision confirms that, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is being made by Treyarch for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it's working with other developers to bring the shooter to the PS3 and Xbox 360, albeit with some missing features.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was revealed to the world a few weeks ago and confirmed to appear in November on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with a suite of impressive features.

Black Ops 3 is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 as well

Now, just like with last year's Advanced Warfare, Activision confirms that special versions of Black Ops 3 are going to launch on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. According to the publisher's blog, the company is working with Beenox and Mercenary Technology to bring Black Ops 3's content to the old consoles.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has been designed to harness the full potential of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. However, we know that there are still some fans that haven’t made the transition to the new console hardware, which is why we’re happy to share that we're working on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3," the publisher says.

There will be some missing features

While Activision pledges to bring the story mode, cooperative Zombies experience, and the competitive multiplayer to the old consoles, the technical limitations prevent all the features from the main version of the game to appear in these ones.

Among these tweaked or missing features is the fact that the story campaign supports just two-player cooperative play, instead of the four-player setup seen on new devices. Other missing mechanics will be confirmed later this year, as development wraps up.

Activision emphasizes that Black Ops 3 won't launch on the Wii U and that the multiplayer beta is only for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. As such, pre-orders for the PS3 or Xbox 360 editions can't be used to access the test phase on these platforms.

Expect to see and hear more about Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 at E3 2015 next week.
