Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's story is set to take place over 8 to 10 years and shows how technology rapidly progresses in the future.

Advanced Warfare debuts next month and is set to bring forth a new spinoff universe for the first-person shooter franchise, this time taking place in the future of 2054, much further than the near future seen in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 or Ghosts.

Besides featuring all sorts of sci-fi tech, Advanced Warfare's story is also going to portray the evolution of said technology, according to Sledgehammer Games' Michael Condrey, who has talked with TotalXbox about the upcoming shooter.

The plot takes place across 8 to 10 years and players will see how the different gadgets used in conflicts evolve over time, just as they're using them.

"There's one event we've talked about but we haven't shown, the building of technology. The story takes place over eight to ten years, so in the beginning you're a marine, and the tech starts at a certain level, and ten years later the tech has really grown," he explains.

What's more, Condrey also confirms that, at different points during the single-player story campaign, the special gadgets will be taken away from players, so that they don't get too accustomed with them and to switch up their play style.

Advanced Warfare debuts next month for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
