After Call of Duty 4 turned out to be one of the major revenue sources for Activision in the fiscal year that ended on March 31, Activision decided to announce more details regarding the next installment in the series, which, for now, is called Call of Duty 5.

Activision sought to eliminate all ambiguity regarding the platforms on which the game will be available. Mike Griffith, who is the Chief Executive Officer for the Publishing division of Activision, has stated that "We'll launch on all four platforms we've participated on in fiscal 2008. We'll launch on the PS2 and the Wii". So it seems that Call of Duty 5 will be available on all major gaming platforms, from the PC to the Nintendo Wii, while not forgetting the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.

With the platform issue sorted out we would have loved to learn more about the setting of the game. Initial rumors said that the game would return to the all too familiar setting of the Second World War, but the people from Activision dispelled this idea, with Griffiths saying that "We'll bring the intensity of the recent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title to a new military theater to engage our significantly larger user base which nearly doubled last year as new users came into the franchise".

One tidbit of information that was not revealed was where this "new theater of war" was situated and there's always the issue of who will do the development work for the game.

There's also news on the Call of Duty 4 front, with Activision disclosing the fact that the game engine will be used to create a new James Bond game, presumably based upon the story of the new James Bond movie, "Quantum of Solace". The game and the movie are set to be released at the same time in the fall and Treyarch have been named for development duties. The game will probably be available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and on the PC. And please, Treyarch, make James Bond as fabulous in videogames as he is in movies, at least once!
