Back in January this year, Aspyr Media was proudly announcing that Activision's immensely-popular first-person shooter (FPS), Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, would launch for Mac in the summer of 2008. A recent note on the publisher's website, however, reveals that Call of Duty 4 for Mac has been delayed.

"Aspyr Media, Inc. announced today they will publish Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Mac, a gripping modern-day action-thriller that deploys players into heart-stopping battles across the world's most treacherous hotspots... the game is expected to be available for Mac in summer 2008," the official Aspyr report dated January 15, 2008 informed.

Today, the publisher's website says: "Aspyr Media, Inc. announced today that the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Mac has been pushed back slightly to the third quarter of 2008." Aspyr explains the main reason behind the delay is its ongoing pursuit of a "high-quality gaming experience for Mac gamers." In other words, CoD 4 for Mac needs more work.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the kind of game where you literally step into another guy's shoes. From start to finish (if you can even get there), the game has you facing quite a few interesting plot twists, as well as fast-paced FPS action. However, you'll need to pack some serious hardware to run this baby - special effects include rim-lighting, depth of field, texture streaming and character self-shadowing. Aspyr itself says that "players are enlisted into one of the most photo-realistic gaming experiences imaginable," so make sure your Mac is up to the task before Q3.

CoD 4 also includes Kill-Cam, a fan favorite feature created for Call of Duty 2 that allows for spectator instant replays.

The game will be available through Aspyr's website for only $49.99. CoD 4: Modern Warfare is developed by Infinity Ward and licensed by Activision.
