Dead Space also takes two awards

In a rather weird twist, Call of Duy 4: Modern Warfare, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, has won three awards at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Game Awards, which were presented in London. The game was released in November 2007 and some people might wonder why the title was even considered for awards aimed at 2008 games.

It seems that because of the release schedule for the game and the way the British Academy for Film and Television Arts calculates the period for games to be taken into consideration, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has managed to show that it is better than most of the titles released in 2008. This gives strength to the opinion of some analysts that 2008 was not a great year for the videogaming industry.

The game picked up the Gameplay award, the Story and Character award and also won the GAME Award, which is voted upon by the public. The only other title to pick up multiple wards was, also surprisingly, Dead Space from Electronic Arts, which won Best Original Score and Use of Audio.

Fable II from Lionhead was judged to be the best Action & Adventure title, while LittleBigPlanet from Media Molecule won for Artistic Achievement. The best casual game was judged to be Boom Blox from Electronic Arts Los Angeles, as Valve took the honors for best multiplayer with the zombie shooter Left 4 Dead. The console-based Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution from Firaxis was the winner for the Strategy award, while Spore won the award for Best Technical Achievement. The BAFTA Award for Bets Games was taken home by Super Mario Galaxy from Nintendo.

We're looking forward to the 2010 edition of the BAFTA Awards. Maybe Call of Duty: World at War will pick up a few awards then.
