Aspyr Media has announced the release of a
free patch for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Mac. Weighing in at 259 MB, the update brings the Mac version of the game up to the current PC one for cross-platform compatibility. There are two versions of the same patch, one for owners of a retail copy, the other for Mac users who have downloaded their game.
Call of Duty 4 is best known for its community-oriented multiplayer gameplay, which features a robust leveling system, a variety of unlockable perks, hot-join and matchmaking, as well as the ability to create a class and party. Developed by renowned game maker Infinity Ward, the first-person shooter includes a fan favorite feature created in Call of Duty 2, called “Kill-Cam,” and allowing instant replays in spectator mode.
“This is an official update for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This patch will update any retail version of the game to version 1.7,” says Aspyr Media. According to the company that brought Call of Duty 4 to the Mac, “this update contains the following fixes:”
- New maps Creek, Chinatown, Broadcast, and Killhouse.
- Hardcore and oldschool server browser filters.
- Fix for a Denial of Service attack.
- Fixed an exploit that allowed players to access certain console dvars during multi-player matches.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when a Chinatown Sabotage match would go into over-time.
- Fixed a bug where the MP icons (Bomb, Defend, Capture, etc) were always showing up as English regardless of the install language.
Those who wish to pick up on the game should know that minimum system requirements call for a Mac packing an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.0 GHz), Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Leopard), 1 GB RAM 8.0 GB + 1 GB Swap File hard disk space, 128 MB video memory, DVD-ROM. For multiplayer, the game requires a broadband connection.
Remember, there are two distinct versions of today's patch. One is aimed at the physical / retail copy of the game, the other is for copies of the game downloaded through GameAgent. Use the links provided below to update your own copy of the game.
