A new version of the famous Calibre eBook editor, viewer, and converter has been released, and the developer has further improved the DOCX functionality that was made available a short while ago.

The Calibre app gets new releases almost every week and most of time the developer comes with a new features and big improvements. The same happened a couple of weeks ago when the maker of Calibre implemented the ability to convert Ebooks to DOCX format. This particular option was a long time coming, and now it's finally here, but it still needs some refining. As you can imagine, it's not easy to implement.

The new version of Calibre is not all about the DOCX implementation. A few other new features have been added as well, like some refinements for the Tag Editor dialogue and the Tag Editor. It's not a lot of new stuff, but it's definitely worth an update.

What's new in Calibre 2.29

Users who are used to see major changes to Calibre will be a little bit disappointed, but each new update is a step in the right direction. Even so, updating the application is probably a good idea.

"Allow opening the full Tag Editor dialog directly from the book list by holding down the Shift key while starting an edit of a tag-like field. For example, click on the tags field for a book and press Shift-F2. Allow undoing the deletion of items in the Manage categories window for Tag Browser," reads the website.

According to the changelog, it's now possible to set arbitrary identifiers besides ISBN, a "Retry" button has been added to the news download failed error message, the DOCX output has been improved, especially for documents with images, the Table of Contents editor has received some improvements, and the Kobo Store plugin has been upgraded.

You can download Calibre 2.29 from Softpedia, but keep in mind that this is just the source, and it needs to be compiled. For an automated installation procedure, check the official website.
