More new features have been added to Calibre

Calibre, a piece of software used to convert, edit, and view eBooks, has been updated and the developer has added some new features, including the possibility to add books from archives.

The Calibre application is being improved all the time and numerous features are added in each new edition. The same is true for the current version, which was just released. There is nothing out of the ordinary, but some of the new options are pretty interesting and should help people use the app much more easily and intuitively.

The development cycle for Calibre seems to remain undisturbed, and a new update for the application is delivered on a weekly basis. The community formed around the app keeps the devs quite busy and many of the changes you see in each edition come from the people who are using it and who notice bugs or want extra options.

Calibre can now import books from archives

There are few visual changes in the new version of Calibre and many of the improvements are actually new functionalities, like the ability to add books to the library straight from Zip and Rar archives, which is a great addition. This can be done by right clicking on "Add Books" and choosing "Add from Archive." This is even more helpful when the user is dealing with archives that house a large number of titles.

A number of other modifications have been made. For example, the CSS that is used in the Table of Contents for the books is now open and it can be customized, the performance of the application when the user imports a large number of books has been improved, and a driver for PocketBook Lux 2 has been added as well.

Another interesting new feature, albeit a small one, can be observed in the Metadata editing dialogue. Users will receive suggestions for the tags, authors, and publishers as they type into the field. It's one of the most underused features of Calibre, but metadata download is actually a very powerful and useful function.

Other changes include a fix for the global menu not working on Unity (for Ubuntu systems), a fix for footnotes, and a fix for the Amazon metadata download, which now lists more books without an ISBN number.
