Calibre is an eBook reader, converter, and editor, but these are just a few of the features of this great app. The developer has released a new update for the application and implemented a few new features and various fixes.

It's been a while since we last saw so many new features being added to Calibre, but they don't bring any major changes. However, users will notice some of the improvements because they affect the interface and the connectivity with devices.

The development cycle of Calibre has been a very calm one and no new functions were added for quite some time. The latest major addition was the ability to edit eBooks, which made Calibre one of the few applications out there capable of doing this.

What's new in Calibre 2.27

Even if Calibre is an incredible piece of software, not all of the updates are exciting ones. The latest 2.27 iteration of the app falls somewhere in the middle. It's not terribly exciting, but it's not a boring version either.

"Animate the main toolbar when a device is connected/disconnected, to indicate that the contents of the toolbar have changed. A clear button for the publisher has been added, an option to not insert page breaks between endnotes has been added. When embedding metadata fails for some books, add an option to show the failed books in the book list," reads the official changelog.

These are only some the changes brought by the latest iteration. Also, a few bug fixes have been implemented as well. According to the changelog, it's now possible to print directly to a PDF file, and users can no longer hide all columns in the book list via the context menu.
