Cake decorator Michelle Wibowo of Cake Angels demonstrated that art can be expressed in many forms and shapes by creating a life-size replica of Michelangelo’s masterpiece “The Creation of Adam” out of cake decorations.

The cake artist made the enormous artwork to mark the 450th anniversary of Michelangelo’s death, which falls on February 18.

“No celebration is complete without cake,” says Michelle Wibowo, according to the Daily Mail.

The sweet replica of the Sistine Chapel fresco contains no less than 10,000 marshmallows and cake decorations. It's 5.7m by 2.8m in size (18ft 9in by 9ft 2in) and it took 168 hours, approximately one week, to complete. The artist dubbed her creation “The Baking of Adam.”

Before starting to work on her replica, Wibowo used computer software to scan the painting on the ceiling of Rome's Sistine Chapel and chose 24 differently colored sprinkles to make her creation as close as possible to the original.

She also needed icing sugar, butter and vanilla frosting to stick the marshmallows and sprinkles on a large board.

“The real difficulty was matching his exact scale and style but the possibilities are endless when you have so many textures and colours to choose from. It's also really hard to stop yourself from nibbling at the masterpiece,” confesses the cake artist.

The "Baking of Adam" sprinkle masterpiece is currently on display at St Pancras Church on Euston Road, London and, after Michelangelo's anniversary celebrations, it will be auctioned for charity.

"The Creation of Adam," which depicts the moment when God made Adam from dust and ground, has been reproduced numerous times. For example, a cross-stitch replica of the artwork was created by Canadian artist Joanna Lopianowski-Roberts five years ago.

The original masterpiece is probably the most famous part of the entire fresco painted by Michelangelo on the Sistine Chapel.
