Caixa Mágica, an English and Portuguese distribution based on Ubuntu, for i586 and x86_64 processors, is now at version 18.

Until not too long ago, Caixa Mágica was based on Mandriva, but starting with version 16, the developers have switched to Ubuntu.

This means that Caixa Mágica 18, or Magic Box in English, is based on Ubunu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), giving users the benefit of five-year support from Canonical.

Both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions come with three desktop environments, GNOME 3.4.1, KDE SC 4.8.2, and the latest version of LXDE.

Other important features include Linux kernel 3.2.0 PAE (just for the 32-bit platform), LibreOffice 3.5.3, Firefox 12, Chromium 18.0.1025.168, and a new version of the Portuguese Citizen Card software.

Keep in mind that the LXDE edition has a non-PAE kerne; therefore, it will not clash with older hardware. Download Caixa Mágica 18 right now from Softpedia.
