The crooks claim they want to protect customers against fraud attempts

Cybercriminals are targeting the credentials of Cahoot customers with the aid of cleverly crafted emails entitled “Cahoot Important Security Alert.”

“In order to continue to protect you, your money and your identity, Cahoot has updated its enhanced security system which will virtually eliminate fraud and totally protect you. All customers are therefore advised to update their account details. Click the Update link below to enjoy the new security features,” the emails read.

The link doesn’t point to the Cahoot website, but to a compromised website on which cybercriminals have planted a webpage that urges victims to provide sensitive information.

Cahoot is an Internet division of Santander UK, which might explain why user credentials would represent a highly valuable loot for the phishers.

If you come across such emails, be sure to ignore the instructions they contain and delete them immediately.
