Developer The Creative Assembly announces that fans of Total War: Rome II will be able to get access to the first campaign expansion for the strategy game, called Caesar in Gaul, on December 12, as long as they are willing to spend 14.99 dollars or Euro.

The new content is designed to offer a more contained experience that focuses on the legendary battles and the impressive strategic maneuvers that the best leader of the Romans executed in order to subdue the various Gallic tribes and then invade Britannia.

Mike Simpson, the creative director of the Total War series, states, “We’ve released a number of DLC packs and free content updates for ROME II, but this is our most substantial so far. We’ve always planned to focus more closely on some of the key conflicts of the ancient world, and Caesar’s war in Gaul is the ideal place to start.”

The new campaign map is designed to include 18 provinces, each of them with fully detailed resources, settlements and new environmental effects.

Both Caesar and his great Gallic rival, Vercingetorix, can be played in the new content and players will get a chance to develop them as leaders and influence their strategic choices.

The fact that Caesar in Gaul only covers the years between 81 and 51 BC means that The Creative Assembly can introduce a 24 turns per year mechanic and more impressive effects linked to seasons.

Total War: Rome II also gets access to a set of new mechanics that are designed to show the unique circumstances that Caesar and Gaul leaders had to deal with.

The campaign expansion will also include the Battle of Alesia and gamers also get to control the Nervii, the Boii and the Galatians in the full game.

Mike Simpson adds, “We’ve also improved the game considerably since launch, and that process continues as we move onto substantial feature and gameplay improvements.”

More DLC for Rome II is in development.
