14 DAY TRIAL // Cablevision Systems Corp. has announced the release of an updated Optimum app for iPhone and iPod touch that aims to deliver “the full cable television experience” on these devices.
Extending the functionality that debuted in April with the Optimum app for iPad, Cablevision Optimum 2.0 now allows users to enjoy more than 300 channels of live TV and thousands of titles of video on demand (VOD), not only on their iPad, but also on their iPod touch and iPhone.
In addition to DVR management, interactive guide information and search. Optmimum allows customers for the first time to use the app on all three devices as a virtual remote control for conventional television sets in their home.
According to Cablevision Systems Corp., this enhancement was simply for maximizing the value of the app as a discovery and navigation tool.
Also noteworthy for this version, parental controls automatically get re-applied when the Optimum App is re-installed. In other words, parents will not be required to re-enter their parental controls upon updating.
Commenting on their new update, John Trierweiler, Cablevision's executive vice president of product management, said, “Our new Optimum App for iPhone and iPod touch extends Cablevision's leadership in offering our full cable television service on new devices, functioning as televisions in the home.”
"We are also pleased to maximize the value of our Optimum App as a navigation and programming discovery tool by incorporating controls for home TVs as well,” added Trierweiler.
“The introduction of this remote control functionality will make it even easier for our customers to locate and view all of the content they already receive as part of their television subscription, whether they want to watch on conventional TVs or these Apple devices," Trierweiler concluded.
Thanks to its recent update, Optimum is now compatible with most iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad models and requires iOS 4.0 or later. The first generation iPhone and iPod touch devices are not supported.
