CUPS, a software used to print form applications and to convert the page descriptions produced by applications into a signal that a printer can understand, is now at version 1.7.1.

This is the first maintenance version in the new 1.7.x branch and features just as many changes and improvements as the previous release.

Highlights of CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) 1.7.1:

• The lppasswd program is no longer incorrectly using settings from ~/.cups/client.conf; • Auto debug logging was broken in 1.7.0, but it has been fixed; • Some gzip'd PPD files could not be used. The problem has been corrected; • Printing to a raw queue no longer results in corrupt output due to opportunistic compression; • The libusb-based USB backend no longer uses write timeouts.

A complete changelog can be found in the official announcement. Download CUPS 1.7.1 right now from Softpedia.
