Unsurprisingly

With today's debut of CTIA Wireless 2008 (1 - 3 April), Sony Ericsson officially confirmed that the awaited Xperia X1 super-phone is running on the latest Windows Mobile OS version, and that is 6.1. No surprise here, as this fact is known, in one way or another, since February, when Xperia X1 was first announced.

Sony Ericsson also confirmed that Xperia X1 will be commercially available in the second half of 2008, after various rumors were saying the handset will not hit the market this year, but only at the beginning of 2009.

The first Sony Ericsson device to run on Windows Mobile, Xperia X1 is clearly among the most expected handsets planned to be released in 2008. Coming with an arc-slider design, a full QWERTY keyboard and a wide 3 inch TFT touchscreen (800 x 480 pixels), Xperia X1 is set to become one of the best multimedia phones ever created. It has all the chances to do so, as it packs next-generation features, including a unique panel user interface, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with flash and auto focus, plus many other goodies that most of the mobile enthusiasts already know about.

Probably the single detail that can make the Sony Ericsson flagship to be considered inferior to other handsets is the fact that its display only supports 65,000 colors. Compared to Nokia N96, for example, which will be released at about the same time with Xperia X1, coming with a display supporting 16 million colors, Sony Ericsson's super-phone looks a bit, well, inferior. However, there will surely be users who will love Xperia X1 and users who will not, but nothing can change the fact that it's a very nice mobile device.

Talking about X1 at CTIA Wireless 2008, Rikko Sakaguchi, Head of Portfolio and Propositions at Sony Ericsson, said: "No two individuals have the same tastes and desires. Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 has been developed to ensure that mobile web communication and multimedia entertainment can be tailored, putting the individual at the heart of the mobile experience in a uniquely personal way."

Those who want to get a taste of Xperia X1 before its launching can visit Sony Ericsson's booth from CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas, between the 1st and 3rd of April.
