CRUX, a lightweight, i686-optimized Linux distribution targeted at experienced Linux users, which is reflected in a straightforward tar.gz-based package system, is now at version 3.0 RC1.

CRUX 3.0 RC1 is the first release for the 64-bit architecture in the 11-year history of the distribution.

Highlights of CRUX 3.0 RC1:

• An update from 2.8 i686 to 3.0 is possible but users have to rebuild all installed packages that are not part of the ISO; • A 32-bit compatibility ports tree is available but not enabled by default (/etc/ports/compat-32.rsync.inactive); • CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION has been enabled in the kernel configuration; • Important extensions have been added for /etc/pkgmk.conf

Check the official announcement for a complete list of updates and new features.
