Mobile phone maker Motorola announced a while ago plans to offer a software update for two of its Android-based handsets in the second quarter of the ongoing year, namely the CLIQ and CLIQ XT. Since the three-months period is set to end in a couple of days, chances are the update won't land in due time, though Motorola remains committed to provide it to its users.

The said software update was set to bring forth the Android 2.1 operating system version from Google, along with a series of enhancements brought to the user interface on these devices, dubbed Motoblur. Among the main novelties that the enhanced Motoblur is expected to bring, we can count an expanded homescreen (7 panels), re-sizable widgets, new battery and data manager, and others more. The video below offers a glimpse at what the new Motoblur includes.

The features list of the new Motoblur to arrive on CLIQ and CLIQ XT sports: - Happenings and Messages widgets – filter by social networking account, by contact(s) or by contact group to see only the information you want - Screen customization – move and resize preloaded widgets on up to seven home screens - Battery Manager – manage battery consumption by operating in one of three performance modes - Data Manager – monitor data usage from the home screen to better manage pay-as-you-go and limited data plans - Personal and Corporate e-mail – pushed directly to the device - Re-tweet capabilities

Of course, we should not forget that the Android 2.1 operating system is also to come in the package, with its own set of features, such as turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps Navigation, pinch-to-zoom in the browser, access to a wide range of new applications, and an updated Android Market. However, there are no specific details available on when the software update would be released for the two mobile phones, though Motorola might announce it officially in the very near future.
