As we also informed you not long ago, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is making a special appearance in the latest “Terminator” film, “Terminator: Salvation,” now running in theaters across the world. Warner Bros. has just released a new television spot for the film and, strangely enough, it also includes the confrontation scene in which a CG Arnold is flexing his pecs and menacing Connor, as SlashFilm can confirm.
Initial reports had it that Arnold only agreed to do the cameo for old times’ sake, since he got plenty of heat for putting politics aside – even for just one day, which is how long it took to get it done – to do movies. At the same time, word in the industry had it that the only condition the Governor imposed was that the movie studio never aired any promo material centering on him – which it just did with the recently released clip that you can check out below.
Like previously unveiled, Schwarzenegger – or, what looks like him but is not – is not wearing any clothes in the confrontation scene. But that is not to say he doesn’t look threatening or dangerous enough, which is perhaps precisely why the studio decided to include the few seconds’ worth of footage in the new trailer, several movie-oriented publications are saying.
Despite the short segment being a confrontation scene between John Connor (Christian Bale) and T-800 (Schwarzenegger), Bale did not get to spend even a short minute with the Governor. This happened because producers used a photo of him of when he was younger, which they later altered to make him look older, while constantly keeping the original (Arnold, that is) in sight. This also explains why he did not spend as much as a day on the set of the film, much to the disappointment of the other cast members, who were hoping to meet him, Bale included.
“I get a thrill out of seeing the scene where Connor faces off against the original T-800. I didn’t meet [Schwarzenegger] on the set. He didn’t have to expend one second of time.” Christian Bale was telling the media not long ago about not getting to shake hands with the man who literally made Terminator cool and what it is today.
