HP's Pavilion brand is one of the oldest in the company's portfolio, but it has gone through quite the transition even so. Originally it was reserved only for professional / enterprise / business PCs, but now it's used even for mini systems.

Case in point, the company has formally launched the HP Pavilion Mini, though that's just one of the two miniature systems coming out of its labs right now. The other is called HP Stream Mini.

The HP Pavilion Mini has 4 GB of RAM (can be upgraded to 8 GB) backing up either the Intel Pentium 3558U or Core i3-4025U CPU. An SD card reader is included, along with a 500 GB HDD, four USB ports, Ethernet and two display connectors: HDMI and DisplayPort.

The other system, called HP Stream Mini, is the same size as the Pavilion but uses 2 GB RAM, a 32 GB SSD and ships with a $25 gift card to the Windows Store.

The Stream Mini is the cheaper of the two. Which is to say, it sells for $180 / €151 - €180 versus the Pavilion's $320 / €270 - €320 price.

With the Stream you also get 200GB of OneDrive storage for two years, which is partially where the name comes from (online streaming and all that).

Sales of the HP Pavilion Mini Desktop and HP Stream Mini Desktop will begin on January 14, 2015, though some regions might not see the two newcomers before February 8. The computers are Energy Star 5 certified.
