The device will be making a debut on the market as soon as next month

Like many major brand vendors, Sony has made an appearance at CES 2014 with a host of interesting products. One of them was of course a convertible, since 2-in-1 hybrids seems to have taken the spot light these days.

Sony refreshes its Vaio Flip series by adding the new Vaio Flip 11 to its 13-inch, 14-inch and 15-inch models. The new product continues the tradition of its predecessors, by bringing the same innovative hinge design that allows users to switch between tablet and Ultrabook mode.

The device will be sold for $799 / €587 and runs Windows 8.1 out of the box. Sony has bundled the 2-in-1 machine with the company’s own Triluminous technology which boosts screen quality and the rendering of colors.

The only problem with the device seems to be its relatively hefty weight (Engadget reports the machine weighs 3 pounds / 1.3 kg).

It appears Sony decided to opt for a design reminiscent of the Flip 15 instead of cutting back on the bulky keys and thus eliminating some of the thickness.

This translates into the VAIO Flip 11 offering quite a similar experience to the 2-in-1 Lenovo Yoga Pro, which isn't a bad product, but be warned that when the keyboard is folded back, you’ll have a pretty heavy tablet on your hands.

As for power and performance, the VAIO Flip 11A will only ship with a quad-core Intel Pentium processor inside, but reportedly users will be able to upgrade the configuration (apparently all the way to Core i7).

The hybrid also features an 8MP camera and N-trig digitizer that will allow users to interact with apps (like OneNote) via the included stylus.

If you don’t mind having a bulkier tablet you can get productive with, you should know the VAIO Flip 11a will begin shipping in February and will be available in black, silver or pink coloring options.
