CES has already started, and most camera and optics manufacturers have announced quite a few new camera and lens models that will be released this year.

A couple of days ago we stumbled upon a few leaked pictures of two Canon cameras that were to be announced at this year's first important international electronics show, CES 2014.

Today, Canon officially announced the PowerShot N100 “concept camera” featuring a new body style as well as a few new interesting features that will allow you to become part of the image being captured.

Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. said that “Canon is continually working to discover new ways for end-users to combine high-image quality and creativity in a technologically advanced compact camera.”

“The new PowerShot N100 is a unique digital camera designed to not only create high-quality images and video, but also capture the feelings of the photographer at the moment they take a picture,” he then added.

The new Canon PowerShot N100 comes with a 12.1MP high-sensitivity CMOS sensor powered by a DIGIC 6 image processor that's capable of providing excellent image quality even in low light conditions. Furthermore, it comes equipped with a 24-120mm (35mm equivalent) f/1.8-5.7 lens with optical image stabilizer.

Probably one of the most interesting features of this camera is its Dual Capture mode that uses a rear-facing sub-camera to capture the expression of the photographer as he takes the picture. Moreover, this feature creates a picture-in-picture effect by combining both shots in a single photo where both photographer and subject can see their expression.

The camera also features enhanced Wi-Fi capabilities and, for the first time in the company's lineup, NFC (Near Field Communication) offered on Android devices. In addition to that, there's a Mobile Device Connect Button that allows you to easily connect and share your photos to your smartphone or tablet.

Canon PowerShot N100 will come in white or black and it's expected to be available starting May 2014, at a price around $349.99 / €257.
