Buy one fridge, get a baby monitor and a touchscreen for free

Just like it happens every single year, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas comes with many, many out-of-this-world gadgets that no one would ever buy.

Samsung’s very own T9000 Four-Door Refrigerator isn’t your typical refrigerator. It’s an all-in-one fridge that comes with an Ultra HD 4K LCD, a baby monitor and the cloud-based Evernote app. But let’s take them one at a time and see what we have here.

First of all, the fridge. It has two doors and 32 cubic feet (more than 900 liters) capacity which, to be honest, isn’t at all impressive. But it does cost $4,000 (€3,050), so it somehow manages to stand out of the crowd.

It also features the new Triple Cooling technology which makes sure that the right humidity level is maintained in the fresh food compartments.

Second of all, there’s a baby monitor. Assuming you have a baby sleeping in the bedroom, you can prepare breakfast while keeping an eye on your child. That’s useful. Or not.

Then, there’s an LCD touchscreen that provides you with a calendar application, plus a weather tool to get the latest forecasts right on your fridge. This really sounds awkward.

Last but not least, the fridge also comes with the cloud-based note taking app Evernote that could replace the traditional post-its we all use these days. In addition, you can also share photos, songs and videos with your friends without leaving the kitchen.

Here’s what the company says about its new product:

“Imagine the possibilities of using the lower right side compartment as a kid zone, as a prep zone for a special meal, as a centralized storage area for a family member with dietary restrictions, or to replace a separate beverage refrigerator.”

According to Samsung, the T9000 Four-Door Refrigerator will go on sale in late spring 2013.
