The end of the year is nigh, so, naturally, companies, Samsung and LG in this case, are getting ready for that event that happens every year in Las Vegas.

CES 2012 (Consumer Electronics Show) will take place between January 10 and 13.

This report says that Samsung will use that opportunity to launch an OLED TV with a screen diagonal of 55 inches.

LG has similar plans, and whatever products they reveal are supposed to start shipping during the second quarter of the year.

That will let them be in time for the London Olympics that commence in the later parts of July.

Currently, OLED displays are only used in mobile devices, but there are ways to make them work in higher formats too.

All that remains is to hope those involved (Apple is preparing one too) will at least try to make them affordable.

Samsung already did actually, at CES 2012 (January 10-13). See here for everything known about it so far.

It is more or less the same as the one from LG, apparently. I think marketing and time of arrival willl determine who sells more of these things.
