Google’s Android platform is considered one of the less protected mobile operating systems available on the market. Analysts, developers and security specialists alike have been raging on the fact that the platform is prone to malicious attacks.

Companies focused on security mobile software have been trying to offer solutions to this issue by developing security applications that could protect Android users from losing sensitive data.

One such company is Trend Micro who launched one the most popular security applications for Android devices, Mobile Security Personal Edition.

Today, at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Trend Micro and Verizon Wireless announced they had teamed up to offer the carrier’s customers the Mobile Security Personal Edition via Verizon Apps.

The security solution developed by Trend Micro protects Android devices from loss, malicious apps, as well as dangerous websites.

As soon as the application is installed on the Android device, users will be able to take advantage of the included features for free, such as the app scanner, lost device protection and enhanced security that blocks inappropriate content while browsing the Internet, calling or texting.

However, the application also includes premium features which require a $2.50 monthly subscription or $30 per year.

The application is compatible with most Verizon smartphones that run Android platform, including HTC DROID Incredible 2, Motorola DROID X2, CASIO G'zOne Commando, HTC ThunderBolt by HTC, LG Revolution and Samsung DROID Charge.

In addition, Mobile Security Personal Edition is available as a free download in the Android Market and should function without any problem on all devices running Android 2.2 and up.

This is why we're excited to be able to offer Verizon Wireless' customers an application that can protect their personal information, keep their kids safe online and help recover a lost device,” said Carol Carpenter, general manager, Consumer Division at Trend Micro.
