Nowadays, experts are keen on revolutionizing gadgets, in an attempt to make them both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Far from being considered a 'mission impossible' this goal has already been achieved by several companies, whose sustainable, high-tech products have been recently unveiled during the 2012 CES.

Most of the innovative items depend on clean, green solar-power, demonstrating that, although renewable sources of energy are still far away from replacing fossil fuels, they are trust-worthy and reliable enough to power our daily appliances.

The lightweight Rukus Bluetooth solar-powered speaker, launched by Eton is powered by a monocrystal solar panel harnessing sunlight to provide clean energy and recharge the 1800 mAh lithium battery.

Its incorporated solar panel proves that users will never be forced to plug it in. A solar panel is also boosting the utility of the Solar Kindle, making it the first device ever launched on the market that uses an eco-friendly cover to guarantee extra reading time.

Perhaps one of the most expected inventions for homeowners are the two new Wagan Tech Portable Solar Power Generators, developed by Wagan Tech: Solar e Power Case 450 and Solar e Power Cube 1500 solar, aiming to green up our households, the devices are ideal for people who are not connected to the grid, or for those who live in areas where energy shortages represent a common issue.

Both generators rely on an AGM/gel hybrid battery, solar panels and power inverters. One of the tiniest gadgets unveiled is precisely the one we put our hopes in when it comes to financial advantages and a maximum level of comfort.

The pocket size super smart Nest self-programming thermostat makes sure that the indoor temperature is ideal throughout the day, helping users preserve their budget, changing the rules of energy-efficiency, due to its build-in Nest SenseTM.

Handling the enormous amount of e-waste is a challenging task for governments worldwide. Correlating financial advantages with recycling strategies always helps; therefore, the Eco ATM gadget recycler should be received with enthusiasm. The prototype represents a smart self-serve kiosk, that literally buys back our no-longer-needed devices, turning old pieces of junk into cash.

Energy-efficiency has definitely been one of the top priorities for AOC, proudly unveiling its 22-inch monitor HD USB-based monitor, supporting a 1920 x 1080 resolution, priced at $199 (€155). Apart from this fact, it has been manufactured accordingly to the strictest eco-conscious standards, for a minimal impact on the environment.

Its advanced LED display technology is a major step towards energy savings, while its packaging is made of recycled materials. The product is expected to require up to 50-percent less power than most of the CCFL backlit monitors available on the market.

Significant power savings are on the list of achievements drawn up by One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program proudly showcasing its 8-inch XO-3 tablet, revealing a 1024x768-resolution LCD and costing only $100(€78.21).

According to OLPC officials, it is the only tablet that can be recharged directly via solar panels. Apparently, all these awesome features will be exploited only by unprivileged students from developing countries.
