It features an arched base and, of course, LED backlights

Details about Samsung's CES exhibition continue to trickle in, this time regarding one of the less ambitious but still big and versatile TV panels.

The trade show happening each January in Las Vegas, Nevada, is not called Consumer Electronics Show for nothing.

It is meant to be a convention for the release and demonstration of all sorts of consumer electronics, big or small.

Samsung was more than eager to oblige, having released, among other things, a 60-inch smart TV.

As reported by SlashGear, the product is not exactly something that can rival the 55-Inch OLED TV that we spoke about two days ago. Nevertheless, as far as LCDs go, the panel definitely doesn't disappoint, not in functionality, not in image quality and not in design either.

The native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels is backed by sharp contrasts and a high level of brightness, plus gesture control.

By gesture control, Samsung means that people should be able to issue commands with waves or other motions of their hands.

To that end, the company implemented a webcam, which tracks hand movements (obviously).

What's more, being a smart TV, it obviously has LAN connectivity and widgets/apps for video chatting, etc.

Speaking of chats, they would not be called such without some way of capturing and relaying the voice. Therefore, Samsung did not forget to toss in a microphone.

As an additional perk, there was mention of the possibility to equip the 60-inch Smart TV with an upgrade module.

A specialized port on the back can accept special SoCs (system-on-chip devices) for upgrading the hardware. Finally, the TV was given a new, double Arch base shape.

Samsung expects to start TV plus module sales (“futureproof” TVs) at some point next year (2013).

The TV itself should ship much sooner, so those interested may want to keep an eye on their local retailers. Unfortunately, information on pricing and availability is unavailable.
