Chinese company Lenovo plans to conquer the Android smartphone market with the new S2 Smartphone. Although the device was officially unveiled last month in China, it appears that the handset maker decided to go international with the smartphone.

The Android-powered device is already available for purchase in China under a different name, Lenovo LePhone S2, but the company decided to go with a another codename for the international variant.

The S2 Smartphone seems to have the same hardware configuration as the Chinese version, and runs the same Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. In addition, the device runs Lenovo’s “Magic 3.0” user interface with Lenovo Cloud services.

Touted one of the safest Android smartphones available in the market, the S2 Smartphone features “kernel level security” that allows users to better protect their sensitive data.

Lenovo S2 Smartphone features a “round arc design,” which strongly resembles the leaked Windows Phone device spotted about two months ago. According to the latest hearsay, this Lenovo Windows Phone device is expected to arrive in stores in the second half of 2012.

The Android-powered smartphone measures 122 x 60 x 10.9mm and weighs 120g (battery included). It comes with a decent 3.8-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display that supports 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Equipped with a 1.4 GHz single core Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, Lenovo S2 Smartphone is a perfect choice for customers who prefer a medium-priced Android solution.

Although the company has yet to announce the pricing options for the global variant of the S2 Smartphone, we can safely assume that Lenovo will, at least, match the competition’s prices.

In this regard, it appears that Lenovo plans to release two models with different storage amounts, an 8GB version that packs 512MB of RAM, and a 16GB variant with 1GB of RAM.

On the back, the S2 Smartphone sports an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and HD (720p) video recording, while on the front there’s a secondary 1.3-megapixel photo snapper for self-portraits and video calls.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support are included as well, alongside HDMI-out with an MHL adapter and a 1,500 mAh Li-Ion battery.
